Metal Gear Video Game Series
A series of action games, counted among the canon of stealth games, and one of the most important brands in Konami's portfolio. Until 2015, the development of the series was overseen by Kojima Productions studio.
The roots of the series date back to 1987 and the game created by Hideo Kojima Metal Gear, which originally came out for MSX2 computers. Three years later, the title lived to see a sequel developed by Konami without the participation of the dev of the original (titled Snake's Revenge), as well as a full-fledged second installment in the series, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, which was overseen by Kojima.
The real breakthrough, both in the history of the series and the entire genre of stealth games, turned out to be the game released in 1998 Metal Gear Solid, released for the PlayStation console. The title was a great artistic and commercial success, thus cementing the brand's position in the market. In 2001, its sequel, Metal Gear Solid , was released on the PlayStation 2. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, while 2004 brought the release of the third installment of the subseries Metal Gear Solid, a game released on PlayStation 2 Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Four years later, in 2008, fans lived to see the release of the game developed for the PlayStation 3. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which in addition to a single-player story campaign included a multiplayer mode - the Metal Gear Online. For the full-fledged fifth installment of the subseries Metal Gear Solid, namely Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, gamers had to wait until 2015; its release was preceded by a prologue released in 2014 titled Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
Over the years, the series lived to see various spin-offs, refreshed versions of older titles and a number of minor projects that hit various platforms. Among them, the following games deserve special mention Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (2006) and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (2010), which came to the PlayStation Portable console and continued the storylines started in the game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as well as the 2013-released slasher Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which is a spin-off of the described series. In 2018, another spin-off of the brand was released, the survivalist Metal Gear: Survive, while in 2023 a full-fledged remake of the iconic Snake Eater, namely Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
In games under the banner of Metal Gear we play the role of a special forces agent. The main character of the first part of the series is Solid Snake, and our task is to find the titular superweapon, a walking tank capable of firing nuclear missiles. Over the course of subsequent installments of the series, the story is significantly expanded - new characters are introduced, and the plot surprises with numerous twists. While the games Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots continue the story begun in the first Metal Gear, the games Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain are its prequels and allow us to take on the role of Naked Snake, later known as Big Boss.
The series Metal Gear is widely regarded as a pioneer and one of the most significant brands for the development of not only the stealth genre, but also the entire video game industry. Its hallmarks include a complex storyline, full of philosophical and political themes, cinematic jamming, as well as unusual solutions, led by the demolition of the so-called fourth wall. The series enjoys cult status and enormous popularity around the world. The latter is evidenced, among other things, by the fact that it has lived to see a number of adaptations in the form of books, comic books and even radio plays. For years there has also been talk of preparing a film adaptation of Snake's adventures.

Our squad traverses post-apocalyptic locations, fighting off enemies using a wide arsenal of weapons, which includes firearms as well as melee weapons and bows. Metal Gear is an action game that at first glance brings associations with classic shooters such as Commando or Ikari Warriors. However, unlike Konami products, they are more focused on surveillance activities, not necessarily manifested by the constant use of weapons. A well-equipped and deadly enemy is better to avoid "quietly" than to enter into an open fight.
