Update (September 11)

Konami has finally confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is in development, as revealed in the latest episode of the Production Hotline series. It turns out that the company doesn't intend to repeat the mistakes of the past, specifically from around the release of Vol. 1.

We’re also worried about how Vol. 1 had a pretty rough launch, with all of the issues, so we’re going to do everything we can not to repeat that. "We just have to ask for everyone to give us time." said Noriaki Okamura.

As for the titles that may end up in the collection, Okamura said:

We had HD ports of MGS1, 2, and 3. Or, sorry, not really for 1, but the other two. But most of the titles released after those don’t have a pre-existing HD port we could use. Some are in HD, but those would all be really big titles, and that comes with its own set of issues.

Konami isn't prepared to provide even an estimated release date for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 at this time.

Original news (August 28)

Given that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to hit the market this year, and since the premiere of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 almost a year has passed, fans of the series are asking: what's next? It seems likely that Konami's next move regarding the mentioned saga will involve releasing the second edition of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection onto the market.

Indications of such a collection being prepared first emerged in June 2023. The most passionate fans then noticed references to Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid 5, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in the code of the website launched by Konami. They indicated that these titles will be remastered in the near future.

Furthermore, in the following months, data miners uncovered files from Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 that confirm the aforementioned assumptions. Subsequently, in November 2023, the original voice of Solid Snake, David Hayter, shared a photo on social media featuring himself with a figurine of the protagonist from the fourth installment of the series, along with a telling caption.

Had a pretty cool meeting the other day...

Konami representative Noriaki Nakamura has now spoken about the potential Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, which was supposed to be part of the rumored fourth installment package. When asked by IGN journalists about the future of MGS 4, which is a game that is still only available on PlayStation 3, he replied:

We definitely are aware of this situation with MGS4. Unfortunately, we can't really say too much at the moment with Vol. 1 containing MGS 1-3 dot dot dot… you can probably connect the dots!

These words indicate that the long-awaited remaster of Metal Gear Solid 4 is in development and will be included in a larger collection, even though MGS: Master Collection Vol. 1 consists of 5 games instead of 3 (Nakamura omitted Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake). If Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is released, it will likely be available for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch, similar to Vol. 1.
