Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake Description
Re-edition of the second installment of the iconic Metal Gear series by Konami, launched in 1987 on MSX computers and now continued as Metal Gear Solid. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake was originally released in 1990 - only in Japan and only on MSX. However, after a dozen or so years, the production received a mobile port and was released for Wii console (as part of the Virtual Console service). The game was also included in the extended edition of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, which was originally released on PlayStation 2, and then as part of the Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and Xbox 360.
Plot
The action of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake takes place in 1999 when oil reserves begin to run out and the world faces a global fuel crisis. When a brilliant Czech biologist discovers a microorganism that transforms crude oil into a full-fledged fuel, there is hope that the crisis will be solved. However, Dr. Kio Marv is abducted in mysterious circumstances and the Asian regime called Zanzibar Land claims the responsibility for all of this. With the discovery by the Czech scientist and access to nuclear weapons, the regime wants to gain power over the world. The last hope of mankind turns out to be Solid Snake - a man who has solved the problem of similar rank in the first part of the Metal Gear series.
Mechanics
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is another seemingly simple top-down action game. Like the original released three years earlier, the game second places particular emphasis not on fast and dynamic action, but stealth. The main task of the player is to infiltrate the enemy base in such a way as to avoid detection by the patrolling guards, monitoring cameras or extremely sensitive motion sensors.
Compared to the first game the guards now see not only in a straight line but also in a 45 degrees angle and can turn their heads unexpectedly, reacting to the player's noises. Luckily, the capabilities and number of gadgets used by Snake have also been significantly expanded. Snake can now crouch and crawl almost silently, neutralize mines and hide under desks or in ventilation shafts. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake also offers more interaction options with the NPCs, and the area of action has become much more varied and filled with more challenging puzzles.
