The action was set in New York from the second half of the 1930s, where a war takes place between five great mafia families. By joining Stracci, Cuneo, Barzini, Tattaglia and Corleone, players build a gangster empire and try to get rid of the competition. The game was developed by Kabam studio specializing in this kind of productions.

They were groundbreaking for the series, moving the eternal struggles of the title bugs into the third dimension. The creators of the series, Team 17, didn't make any changes to the gameplay mechanics, focusing instead on refreshing the visuals and tweaking them to HD standards.
