Master of Magic is another strategy game by MicroProse, which at first glance evokes the right associations with the legendary Civilization of Sida Meier. This time the authors served us a journey to a fantastic world, in which two different lands await conquering: Myrror and Arcanus. The first of them is a place of enormous intensity of magic - this is where the greatest sorcerers come from. There are also lots of precious metals, such as gold and silver. The other land, Arcanus, cannot boast such properties as Myrror, but is more densely populated, both friendly creatures and monsters.
We start the game by determining the level of difficulty, the number of enemies (up to four), the size of the terrain and the level of magic that occurs in both kingdoms. After pointing out the basic factors in which the struggle for control over the world will take place, we begin to choose the wizard (there are fourteen of them in total). The characters prepared by the authors of the game are assigned to one of the two lands. This information is important in that, depending on where we live, there will be some breeds available. If we don't like ready-made sorcerers, we can always create our own from scratch - this process resembles traditional RPG games. When we finally establish all the basic functions, we begin with the right struggle. The game is based on similar rules as in Civilization. The player creates new cities, builds armies, takes care of food production and technological development of the kingdom. As in Master of Magic it is important to fight other wizards and the many monsters living in the land, you should devote a lot of time and effort to improving your magical skills. The amount of spells available in the game is huge and should satisfy even the biggest malcontents.
Like her older sister, Master of Magic is an extremely complex and addictive game. Mastering all the nuances associated with kingdom development and army building will require a lot of free time, but MicroProse gives it away with more than enough playability. Great graphics and impeccable sound also have a positive impact on the image of the whole, making Master of Magic one of the most interesting strategy games that appeared in the mid-nineties.
