Gathering food in Frostpunk Frostpunk Guide
Last update: 24 April 2018
Besides coal, food is one of the most important resources. It is impossible to create a functioning city without it. In Frostpunk, it is also important how your food is prepared.
Getting raw food
You start with a certain amount of raw food. However, you don't get a lot and these supplies will only last for a short time. Because of that you should build a building that allows you to get raw food (build it within the first two days).
After some time, you can substitute a Hunter's Hut with Flying Hunters which serve as an upgraded and a more efficient version of the basic building. It also allows you to increase efficiency without hiring additional workers.
Another way of getting raw food is to build a Heathouse. It produces a certain amount of raw food per hour. However, this amount is rather low even after upgrades. Combine the fact that it requires a Steam Core and you have a building that isn't very profitable.
Turning raw food into its edible form
Raw food should be prepared in the right way so it can be consumed by your citizens. This can be done in a Cookhouse. Its employees work in a one of the modes that allow them to turn raw food into a certain amount of edible food.
At first, you only have one mode. However, this can be changed by signing "Soup" or "Food Additives" laws. Each building of this type is treated as a separate unit which means that you can set different modes for every single Cookhouse.
