SUNLESS SKIES IN A NUTSHELL:
- Developer: Failbetter Games
- Platform: PC, PS4, XONE, Switch
- Release date: January 31, 2019
- 2,748 reviews on Steam
Sunless Skies is a continuation of the excellent Sunless Sea. The authors did not take the easy way and prepared a game that's highly distinguishable from their other works. They've abandoned the depths of the sea, and allowed us to incarnate the captain of a star locomotive, which is sent to explore a fantastic version of outerspace at the beginning of an alternative version of the XX century. Sounds a little weird, but don't fret.
During the game, we travel through the emptiness of space, perform tasks, fight, develop the crew, and regularly make difficult decisions. Failbetter Games sport an opinion of a team capable of creating stunning stories, and Sunless Skies continues this trend. The game world is fascinating, offers many interesting stories and intriguing places. Each character met (as well as our subordinates) have their own history and unique personality, and the player's decisions have a great influence on how the story unfolds.
Sunless Skies is as good a game as Sunless Sea, but the sales were much worse. The commercial failure did not bring Failbetter Games to bankrupcy, but it forced the studio to let some developers go. This is sad, because this game met the expectations in all respects, and deserves much greater recognition.
Sunless Skies is a game for you if:
- you appreciate a good story;
- you're looking for an unusual and rich universe;
- you liked the Sunless Sea.
