Our next suggestion can indeed hardly be classified as underrated. Octopath Traveler found over a million buyers within a month after its release on Switch. The PC release did not become such a hit, but the estimated result of 105 thousand after the first five weeks on the market also doesn't give the authors a reason for discontent.

The reason for its appearance on the list is that, despite everything, the game definitely deserves even more recognition, since it's indeed one of the most interesting jRPGs of recent years.

The story is really original. It tells the stories of eigth individuals, whose paths only cross near the end of the game. Combat is more traditional, based on the classic, turn-based system known from many other Japanese RPGs. It was, however, very well implemented – promoting a lot of depth and tactical freedom.

Another unique element of the game are the graphics. The style has been defined by the authors as HD-2D. It combines two-dimensional characters with three-dimensional locations. However, both of these elements were made in a genuine, big-pixel retro style. This yields an unusual end result, which looks modern on the one hand, but at the same time effectively evokes the atmosphere of 16-bit console classics of the RPG genre.
