Seventeenth installment in the Atelier series, created by the Japanese studio Gust, and a classic representative of the jRPG genre, featuring a turn-based combat system and a humorous and charming storyline. Plot-wise Atelier Sophie opens a completely new chapter in the history of the series and is unaffiliated with any of the previous installments.
Atelier Sophie for PC, PS4, etc. is the seventeenth installment of the Atelier series. Like its predecessors, the title is a classic jRPG with a turn-based combat system and a plot full of humor and charm. The game was developed by Gust. This experienced developer has been operating on the market since 1993 and over the following years has specialized in developing RPGs. In addition to the Atelier series, started in 1997, the studio is also known for its Ar tonelico franchise. Atelier Sophie uses many of the new gameplay solutions found in its predecessor, Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea.
Atelier Sophie opens a completely new chapter in the series and is not fictionally related to previous titles. During the adventure, players direct the actions of the 16-year-old Sophie Neuenmuller. The girl, who lives in the peaceful city of Kirchen Bell, is a beginner alchemist who inherited the workshop from her deceased grandmother. One of the many gifts left by her relative is a magical speaking book. To Sophie's surprise, the volume at some point acquires the human figure of a young woman named Plachta. To help Plachta regain lost memories, Sophie decides to writ up her pages with new alchemical formulas.
In the course of the game, we explore colorful locations where we collect materials to create new objects and fight against various creatures. As in Atelier Shallie, we can freely control the position of the camera in the game. An important novelty is the day and night cycle, determining which opponents and NPCs we can ecounter. Sophie can use her workshop to create new formulas, mix ingredients and choose the characteristics of new items. The goal is to discover as many recipes as possible, which will allow you to learn all the secrets of Plachta. Battles are fought in turn-based mode - players use standard attacks, special abilities and bombs or poisons.
