Dying Light 2. Ultimate list of best games of 2022

Table of Contents

  1. Release date: February 4
  2. Genre: FPP action game
  3. Developer: Techland
  4. Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X & S, Xbox One
  5. Our score: 8.5/10

A new city, a new hero, and the same troubles with post-apocalyptic zombies – plus the same, awesome, FPP parkour. In the second part of Dying Light, we play as Aiden once again – the pilgrim, who arrives in the city of Villedor to search for his sister, lost years ago in mysterious circumstances. As always in long stories about zombies, some years after the outbreak of the plague, the living dead pose less of a threat than the survivors, who are grappling for power over the newly-emerged communities. This is the case in Dying Light 2, where Aiden gets into conflict between several factions and often has to make difficult choices.

The Polish developers made us wait a long time, but our patience was rewarded. The game immediately garbs you with its biggest advantages – even more powerful set of parkour moves, and a more compelling world to explore. The creators prepared many climbing-based and platform puzzles, quite good quests and – of course – extremely satisfying and expanded combat mechanics. All these features make it difficult to top playing the game, despite some noticeable copy-pasting of objects and textures, and dialogues that are not always well-written.

Techland has probably created something more important than a flawless piece of code from a template. We got a convincing open world that encourages you to learn its secrets and where you can enjoy everything you do – fighting, climbing on elaborate structures or simply exploring the game universe. Dying Light 2 isn't perfect, but it makes up for all its shortcomings perfectly.

Dying Light 2 takes the same survival horror route as the original but improves everything that made the first game so much fun in the first place by breathing life into its world, characters, and narrative.
