What are Points of Interest (PoI)?
Points of Interests (PoI) are any question marks visible in regions that you can explore by using the Ornithopter. You will find villages where there is rock under the sand. The research time for points is fixed for everyone, but can be sped it up by proper Research. Discontinuing a research does not remove your progress - so you can discontinue at any time if you have something more important to do.
In PoI you will find new villages to interact with, as well as interesting treasures, ruins and wrecks from which you can recover resources or use them for research. The exact list of interesting places and rewards can be found below.
Players can explore all points on the map. If you explore all of them, then new ones will appear.
Note - the research icon, for example, like the one near the crashed shuttle, means that the research is speeded up by 2 days (i.e. 1 minute). However, this is a boost of one random available research, so you can even speed up one that you don't plan to explore. The title in the window will show you which tree the research will be selected from. However, this will never be research from the Espionage tree.
You may notice that some undiscovered Points of Interest have different icons: on a gray and on a black background. The ones with black backgrounds are usually rare and more rewarding places, like the Black Market and Inhabited Hiereg . They often appear in later stages of the game.
Ornithopters
The basic Ornithopter model costs 400 Solari and 2 Fuel Cells . Remember that the cost of maintaining them is an additional 5 Solari . In some random events, you may encounter the Experimental Ornithopter - its maintenance cost is only 2 Solari. In Points of Interest you can find a wreck, from which you can get the Recovered Ornithopter for 10 minutes.
You can speed up the exploration of Points of Interest by using more than one Ornithopter.
Investigation & Examination of POI
To perform an action on a PoI other than using troops or the Ornithopter, you need agents. They usually allow you to speed up research or obtain Intel. However, you must assign them to the Arrakis Infiltration to allow them work.
You can only examine one PoI at a time. However, if you have more agents assigned to Infiltrate Arrakis, the research rate drops by 50% for each agent, even if you only entrust him with the task for the duration of the research.
How to speed up the examination?
Factions have two researches that speed up the discovery of Points of Interest, while the second one also discovers all question marks on the map.
These are the Paracompass and Spectral Imaging from the Green Research Tree. Note that the latter research also helps Harvesters with mining when you have nothing to do with the excess Ornithopter.
