Last update: 11 May 2016
You almost always start playing Don't Starve in summer that lasts 20 days, after which 15 days of winter come. Winter time is much more difficult to survive and that is why it is a good idea to get well prepared.
How is winter different from summer?
During winter:
- Your character freezes if you move away from fire for an extended period of time
- Redbirds are replaced by their winter variety (Snowbirds)
- Red Hounds are replaced by Blue Hound
- Instead of a Koalefant you can hunt down a Winter Koalefant
- New enemies appear on the map: MacTusk, WeeTusk and Deerclops
- Your food goes off slower by 25%
- Bees do not leave the bee box and produce no honey
- Butterflies are not born from flowers
- Frogs do not leave ponds
- Lakes freeze which makes fishing impossible
- Farms do not bear crop
- Seedlings regenerate very slowly
