General information about BioShock Infinite trophies/achievements
- The basic game has 51 trophies/achievements - you only need to get them to unlock the platinum trophy on PS3 and PS4. DLC trophies (there are 30 of them) are completely optional.
- The number of trophies/achievements (with the exception of the platinum) is the same regardless of the platform. Their requirements are also the same.
- Getting all the trophies during a single playthrough is extremely difficult because you would have to play on the highest difficulty level and with additional restrictions. It is best to finish the game twice. During the first playthrough, you should focus primarily on finding all the collectibles/secrets and getting combat-related achievements.
- You must find all the secrets to unlock 2 related trophies. The available collectibles are telescopes, kinetoscopes, and voxophones. You can find information about the secrets in our walkthrough and in separate chapters dedicated to the collectibles. Some of them, unfortunately, are very well hidden.
- The second playthrough must be done on the highest difficulty level - 1999 Mode. It offers a huge challenge, however, the first playthrough will help you a lot in knowing what obstacles are awaiting you. Try to unlock the Scavenger Hunt trophy during your first playthrough - it forces you to not buy anything from the Dollar Bill vending machines.
- Unlike the predecessors, BioShock Infinite has the option to replay stages. Use it if you want to get an achievement associated with a specific location, or obtain a previously missed collectible.
- Try to use different weapons. Almost every weapon is associated with a separate achievement, for example, kill dozens of opponents using a specific weapon. By changing the weapons frequently, you should complete the game with many weapon-related trophies unlocked or nearly unlocked.
- 1999 Mode difficulty is initially locked, but you can easily unlock it using the method described in Auld Lang Syne trophy/achievement. Use this method if you want to complete the game immediately in this mode.
Platinum Columbia
Trophy type: platinum
How to unlock: Get all the trophies.
Commentary: This trophy can only be unlocked in the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.
Written in the Clouds
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Completed Lighthouse.
Commentary: Lighthouse is the first chapter of the game, and you just need to finish it by climbing to the top of the lighthouse and going to Columbia. This trophy can't be missed.
Welcome to Monument Island
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Reached Monument Island.
Commentary: You reach Monument Island automatically by an airship as during the fifth chapter - Monument Island Gateway. This trophy can't be missed.
Shock Tactics
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Retrieved Shock Jockey.
Commentary: Shock Jockey is one of the vigors, and you will get it by making enough progress in the main storyline. You get it from defeated Slate in chapter 11 - Hall of Heroes Gift Shop. The vigor is obtained regardless of how you act, meaning that the trophy/achievement can't be missed.
First Class Ticket
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Boarded The First Lady.
Commentary: You get onboard The First Lady during chapter 12 - Return to Hall of Heroes. Perform all necessary actions and then pull the lever. This trophy can't be missed.
Armed Revolt
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Assisted the gunsmith.
Commentary: This achievement/trophy is obtained during chapter 22 - Bull House Impound. You have to go through the entire location to get to the place where Elizabeth can open a big Tear. This is part of the main story - the trophy can't be missed.
Working Class Hero
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Completed the Factory.
Commentary: The Factory is the title of chapter 27. During it, you have to go back onboard The First Lady. This trophy can't be missed.
Blood in The Streets
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Completed Emporia.
Commentary: To complete the Emporium section, you must complete all the steps to get to the Comstock House. This means e.g. that you need to defeat Siren, Lady Comstock's Ghost, three times. The last fight takes place in chapter 31 (Memorial Gardens) before entering the Comstock House. This trophy can't be missed.
Higher Learning
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Completed Comstock House.
Commentary: Search Comstock Home and find Elizabeth. This happens during chapter 35 - Operating Theatre. This trophy can't be missed.
The Bird or the Cage
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Completed The Hand of the Prophet.
Commentary: You receive this achievement/trophy soon after winning the final battle onboard the airship. This happens in chapter 39 - Command Deck. This trophy can't be missed.
Tin Soldier
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Completed the game on Easy difficulty or above.
Commentary: You get this trophy/achievement automatically by completing the game on any of the higher levels.
Saw The Elephant
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Completed the game on Normal difficulty or above.
Commentary: You get this trophy/achievement automatically by completing the game on any of the higher levels.
Stone Cold Pinkerton
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Completed the game on Hard difficulty or above.
Commentary: Complete the game on 1999 Mode, the highest difficulty, to get this trophy/achievement automatically.
Auld Lang Syne
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Completed the game on 1999 Mode.
Commentary: 1999 Mode is the highest difficulty level in BioShock Infinite. The most important features of this difficulty level are:
- The hero's attack power is reduced by 50% (compared to the normal difficulty level).
- The hero takes double damage (compared to the normal difficulty level). In addition, enemies' long-range attacks have better accuracy.
- When you die, you need to pay $100 to resurrect. Also, all enemies will be returned to full strength.
- The shield recovery delay is 6 seconds, and the time required to restore the shield is 4 seconds.
- The indicator leading to the mission objectives is not available.
- You can't use the aim assist.
- Loot is much less common than on lower difficulty levels.
We do not recommend this difficulty level for your first playthrough. You aren't familiar with the game mechanics and you don't know what awaits you in individual chapters. Also, completing weapon- and collectible-related trophies/achievements will be much more difficult.
If you are playing on 1999 mode, try to make the most of the limited supplies. Don't use powerful vigors and ammo for better weapons during fights with weaker opponents. Also, always try to have extra supplies to fight the bosses. Choose those vigors and infusions that increase your effectiveness on the battlefield. However, don't focus only on dealing damage, you should also pay attention to passive bonuses (e.g. extra health or chance to stun enemies).
We don't recommend using Dollar Bill vending machines on 1999 Mode. This will unlock Scavenger Hunt trophy/achievement meaning that you won't have to go through the game again on the highest difficulty.
Should Auld Acquaintance...
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Unlocked 1999 Mode.
Commentary: This trophy can be obtained in two ways. The first method is more obvious - complete the game on easy, medium, or high difficulty level.
The second way is to use the code - it will unlock this difficulty immediately. Select this option if, despite our warnings, you still want to complete your first playthrough on the highest difficulty. The code for unlocking the 1999 Mode is entered in the main menu. Enter the right buttons. The right combination:
- On PS3/PS4 - Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Circle, X, OPTIONS.
- On X360/XONE - Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, START.
- On PC - Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, BACKSPACE, ENTER.
Industrial Accident
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 20 enemies with a Sky-Hook Execution.
Commentary: Sky-Hook is the first weapon you get during, and this will happen in chapter 3 - Raffle Square.
To perform an execution, you need to weaken the enemy to make a skull icon appear above their head. You can weaken enemies by using the Sky-Hook or any other weapon. Hold the Sky-Hook attack button to make Booker perform an execution instead of a normal attack. Repeat this 19 more times.
Aerial Assassin
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 20 enemies with a Sky-Line Strike.
Commentary: Sky-Lines are rails suspended in the air that can be used with the Sky-Hook.
When you travel on a Sky-Line, always keep an eye on the opponents standing beneath the lines. Once you are above one of the enemies, press X (on PS3/PS4) or A (on X360/XONE) to jump on them. Only weaker enemies can be killed instantly. Don't wait with getting this trophy/achievement for too long, because you may not have enough chances to find 20 regular opponents to attack from the air.
A Real Pistol
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 25 enemies with the Broadsider Pistol.
Commentary: Broadsider Pistol is the first firearm you get during the game. You can get it in chapter 3 - Raffle Square. Take a gun from one of the police officers and start using it to kill the enemies.
Passionately Reciprocated
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 150 enemies with the Founder Triple R Machine Gun or Vox Repeater.
Commentary: You can use the rifles alternately. You don't have to get 150 kills with just the Founder Triple R Machine Gun or just the Vox Repeater. Founder Triple R Machine Gun can be found, for example, in chapter 4 - Comstock Center Rooftops. Vox Repeater can be found, for example, in chapter 21 - Shantytown.
Street Sweeper
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 50 enemies with the Founder China Broom Shotgun or Vox Heater.
Commentary: The shotgun starts appearing from chapter 8 - Soldier's Field. One of the heaters is displayed in the Toy Soldiers toy store, although its theft will attract the attention of the police. You can use both types of shotguns alternately. You don't have to get 50 kills with just the Founder China Broom or just a Vox Heater.
Big Game Hunter
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 100 enemies with the Founder Huntsman Carbine or Vox Burstgun.
Commentary: You can use both weapons alternately. You don't have to get 100 kills with just the Founder Huntsman Carbine or just a Vox Burstgun. Founder Huntsman Carbine can be obtained, for example, in chapter 8 - Soldier's Field (the locked office that can be opened with 5 lockpicks). Vox Burstgun can be found, for example, in chapter 31 - Memorial Gardens.
Loose Cannon
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 25 enemies with the Paddywhacker Hand Cannon.
Commentary: Paddywhacker Hand Cannon can be obtained, for example, during chapter 16 - Worker Induction Center. It will be on the table in the place where you meet Flambeau.
On a Clear Day...
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 30 enemies with the Bird's Eye Sniper Rifle.
Commentary: This sniper rifle can be found in different parts of the game. One of the moments when you get it appears during chapter 9 Hall of Heroes when you fight Slate's thugs.
Here Little Piggy
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 30 enemies with the Founder Pig Volley Gun or Vox Hail Fire.
Commentary: You can use both weapons alternately. You don't have to get 30 kills with just the Founder Pig Volley Gun or just a Vox Hail Fire. You can find both weapons while playing the game. One of the Founder Pig Volley Guns can be found inside the locked room in chapter 16 Worker Induction Center (you need to ask Elizabeth to help and use 5 lockpicks).
Master of Pyrotechnics
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 20 enemies with the Barnstormer RPG.
Commentary: Barnstormer RPG can be found in several places in the world, for example, in chapter 8 Soldier's Field (next to the gondola and voxophone) or in chapter 9 Hall of Heroes (in the employees' room).
Seasoned to Taste
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 30 enemies with the Peppermill Crank Gun.
Commentary: Peppermill Crank Gun can be obtained in several ways. A more obvious option is to pick up the weapon from one of the defeated Patriots, such as the Patriot from chapter 10 Inside the Hall of Heroes. You can also find the Peppermill Crank Gun during exploration. The weapon is, for example, in one of the Tears in chapter 22 Bull House Impound.
Well Rounded
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Used all 8 Vigors against enemies.
Commentary: The list of vigors can be found in a separate chapter. We also inform how to get all eight main vigors. Use each of them to kill at least one enemy.
Vigorous Opposition
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 75 enemies either with a Vigor or while the enemy is under the effects of a Vigor.
Commentary: You shouldn't have much trouble with this achievement/trophy. Try to use vigors regularly and finish off opponents if, for example, they are still alive after an electric shock or being set on fire.
More for Your Money
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Lured 3 enemies into a single Vigor trap 5 times.
Commentary: A trap is an alternative way of using many vigors - hold the vigor button to deploy it. Sequences where you fight groups of weak opponents are very helpful here. Weak enemies die instantly if get within reach of the trap.
If you want to make sure that opponents won't have time to run away, activate traps after approaching enemies unaware of your presence. The picture above shows this type of situation - a group of Zealots of the Lady encountered in chapter 4 Comstock Center Rooftops.
Combination Shock
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Performed all 8 of the Vigor combinations.
Commentary: We have described all eight possible combinations in Vigor combinations chapter. To create a combination, you need to use vigor 1 (e.g. Possession) and then follow up with vigor 2 (e.g. shock a possessed enemy to stun nearby hostiles). Fortunately, each combination must be performed correctly only 1 time.
Mind Over Matter
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Killed 20 enemies using Possessed machines.
Commentary: This trophy is associated with Possession vigor. Thanks to it, you can not only attack opponents but also machines. Use this vigor on turrets to make them fire at enemies. The game will count every enemy killed in this way (those killed without your direct involvement).
Tear 'em A New One
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Opened 30 Tears.
Commentary: You learn about Elizabeth's ability to open Tears during chapter 10 - Inside the Hall of Heroes. They are located in specific places, however, many of them are completely optional. The game has over 30 Tears which means that you don't have to find every single one of them.
Strange Bedfellows
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Killed 20 enemies using allies brought in through a Tear.
Commentary: This is a more complex version of Tear 'em A New One. You must look for Tears that will "reveal" a turret or a strong ally (e.g. a Patriot). The battles in chapter 10 Inside the Hall of Heroes or chapter 12 Return to Hall of Heroes are a good opportunity. It is worth checking all the Tears to find as many potential allies as possible.
On The Fly
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 30 enemies while riding a Sky-Line.
Commentary: This is a slightly different version of Aerial Assassin trophy/achievement. Sky-Lines are rails suspended in the air that can be used with the Sky-Hook.
This trophy requires you to shoot weapons while being attached to the line. Use weapons with high accuracy. Also, remember that you can always reduce the speed of movement on a line - this should make it easier for you to target opponents.
Bolt from the Blue
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Killed 5 enemies with a headshot while riding a Sky-Line.
Commentary: This is a more complex version of On The Fly trophy/achievement. You need to kill at least five enemies with headshots. We recommend high-accuracy weapons and slow down as much as possible while riding a line.
Hazard Pay
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Killed 10 enemies by utilizing environmental hazards.
Commentary: The game has three main types of dangerous environmental elements. They are:
- Tesla coils - You can "summon them" by opening Tears and luring opponents into them.
- Puddles - You can use the Shock Jockey vigor to electrocute enemies standing in the water.
- Oil spots - You can use the Devil's Kiss vigor to burn enemies standing in an oil spot.
Bon Voyage
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Killed 20 enemies by knocking them off Columbia.
Commentary: You can use the Undertow vigor found in chapter 27 - The Factory. After that, look for opportunities to attack enemies standing near the edge - use Undertow to push them into the abyss.
Skeet Shot
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Killed 5 enemies while they are falling.
Commentary: This trophy can be earned in parallel with the Bon Voyage achievement/trophy described above. Look for opportunities to push enemies and kill them after while they are falling into the abyss. You should always quickly fire at those enemies before they fall far enough to be out of reach.
Lost Weekend
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Killed 5 enemies while you are drunk.
Commentary: Alcohol can be easily found, for example, in Graveyard Shift Bar located in Shantytown visited in chapter 21. After the hero gets drunk, use powerful vigors or weapons to quickly get rid of at least 5 enemies.
David & Goliath
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed 20 "Heavy Hitter" enemies.
Commentary: Information about powerful enemies can be found on a separate page. These are Firemen, Zealots of the Lady, Patriots, and Handymen. If you don't avoid powerful opponents at all costs, you should easily defeat at least 20 of them within a single playthrough. If this doesn't happen, you can replay chapters in which they appear.
Heartbreaker
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Killed a Handyman by only shooting his heart.
Commentary: Handyman is one of the stronger opponents. You have to aim at the round hole in his chest - we marked it in the picture above.
This trophy/achievement is unfortunately very problematic since you can't hit any other part of Handyman's body. Play on easy and use a sniper rifle. Stand away from the enemy, so that you can safely aim at his heart before he gets close to Booker.
Dress for Success
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Equipped a piece of Gear in all four slots.
Commentary: The equipment slots are for hats, vests, trousers, and shoes. Equip an item in all the slots. You can find new pieces of gear inside boxes and chests. We described this topic in detail in the Gear section.
Kitted Out
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Fully upgraded one weapon and one Vigor.
Commentary: Use Minuteman's Armory vending machines to upgrade weapons (example in the picture). We discussed the whole process in detail on the Weapon upgrades page. The pistol is the easiest to upgrade since its upgrades are the cheapest.
To upgrade vigors, use Veni! Vidi! Vigor! vending machines (example in the picture). The whole process was described on the Vigor upgrades page. These upgrades are purchased with dollars, too.
Raising the Bar
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Upgraded one attribute (Health, Shield, or Salts) to its maximum level.
Commentary: Improve the hero's statistics with infusions - more about them on a separate page. That chapter also has information on their locations.
Each infusion allows you to increase your health, shield, or salt by 1 point. To unlock the trophy faster, try to focus on developing a single statistic. You must spend a total of 10 points.
Infused with Greatness
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Collected every Infusion upgrade in a single game.
Commentary: Check Infusions chapter to learn where you can find them. If you missed an infusion, you can go back for it using the replay level option.
Sightseer
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Used all telescopes and kinetoscopes in the game.
Commentary: Telescopes and kinetoscopes are types of collectibles/secrets in BioShock Infinite. For information on where to find them, check Vantage points chapter. If you missed a telescope or kinetoscope, you can return to them by replaying levels.
The Roguish Type
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Used Elizabeth to pick 30 locks.
Commentary: Elizabeth can open locks in two ways:
- Using a hairpin - This, unfortunately, will only work on selected locks related to the main storyline.
- Using lockpicks you gave her - Lockpicks disappear after opening a lock. This means that you need to look for them. We described this mechanic in detail on the Lockpicks page.
Eavesdropper
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Collected every Voxophone.
Commentary: Voxophones are the main collectibles/secrets in BioShock Infinite. Check the dedicated page to learn about their locations. You need to find a total of 80 voxophones. If you missed one, you can go back for it using the replay level option.
Grand Largesse
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: Spent $10,000 at the vending machines of Columbia.
Commentary: You should get this trophy without any problems during a playthrough Try to explore locations as carefully as possible and purchase items from vending machines.
Coins in the Cushion
Trophy type: silver
How to unlock: Looted 200 containers.
Commentary: This trophy/achievement is very similar to Grand Largesse. Explore the locations thoroughly - you shouldn't have problems with opening a total of 200 containers.
Scavenger Hunt
Trophy type: gold
How to unlock: Completed the game in 1999 mode without purchasing anything from a Dollar Bill vending machine.
Commentary: This is a more complex version of Auld Lang Syne. In addition to playing on the highest difficulty level, you also have to avoid buying things from Dollar Bill Machines - example in the picture above. You have to conserve supplies and carefully explore the areas to get ammunition and other items.
