BioShock Infinite has 40 chapters. Of course, not every chapter takes the same amount of time to complete. Regardless, you need to complete them all. Each chapter is described on one or more pages.

A few tips before you start the game

Below you will find some quick tips for BioShock Infinite. Try to memorize them before starting a campaign for the first time:

BioShock Infinite doesn't allow you to save the game whenever you want. All progress is saved automatically and in a single slot. This is a nuisance because you can't "have a backup" when you encounter more difficult battles. Keep this in mind and try not to take any unnecessary risks during fights.
Find as much loot as possible. This tip is also true for the previous parts of the BioShock series. Thorough exploration will help you find coins, ammunition, collectibles, and other useful things. Try to carefully explore each newly visited place and don't forget about the available places that are reached using the sky-hook.
Spend the money wisely. Each upgrade in BioShock Infinite costs money. Don't try to spend gold on everything - think what you want to purchase. First, choose the most useful upgrades, such as improvements to frequently used weapons.
Each revival costs money. Death doesn't necessarily mean the end. However, reviving the main character costs money and the cost of increases on higher difficulty levels. Don't play too risky, because if you run out of money to resurrect, the game will load the last checkpoint.
You can replay chapters. This is possible thanks to a special option available in the main menu. You don't need to worry if, for example, you miss a collectible, because you can easily go back to get it.

How to unlock the highest difficulty level - 1999 Mode?

The 1999 Mode is the highest difficulty level in BioShock Infinite. However, this level is initially blocked. You can unlock it in two ways - complete the game for the first time at any difficulty level or enter a special code. Use the second option if you want to immediately select the highest difficulty (note - this is highly unadvised if you aren't familiar with the game!).

You can enter the code in the game's main menu presented in the picture above.

Does the game have a map?

No, BioShock Infinite doesn't have an interactive map available at any point in the game. You have to complete the vast majority of chapters without any maps etc. In some stages, you can only find stationary maps showing the current location. These are only small hints that allow you to determine where Booker is and where he should go next.

The game has a navigation arrow and you can call it up by pressing up on the d-pad. It points the way to the current main mission goal and can help you if you get lost in some larger or multi-level locations.

Can I visit Rapture?

Yes, but only in the story expansion called Burial at Sea - BioShock Infinite Guide

Yes, but only in the story expansion called Burial at Sea. BioShock Infinite is set in the flying city of Columbia. However, both episodes of the Burial at Sea DLC allow you to move to the underwater Rapture city, known from the two previous BioShock games. Moreover, Rapture found in the Burial at Sea expansions is presented in the "intact" version, before it got destroyed. This gives you the opportunity to explore this place when it was still a busy metropolis.

Does BioShock Infinite have different endings?

No, BioShock Infinite only has one ending. This is, unfortunately, a significant regression compared to the previous two parts of the series. There are a few moments in the game where you have to make a choice, but none of them will affect the ending. The finale is scripted and always the same. The same goes for the two parts of the Burial at Sea DLC. Each of these additions can only end in one way.

Is BioShock Infinite a long game?

BioShock Inifinite isn't very long - the average completion time is a dozen hours. If you focus solely on the main storyline, you will need around 11-12 hours to see the end credits. However, if you want to carefully explore the area and find all the collectibles, the game time will be increased to about 20 hours.

Can I complete the game by playing as a pacifist?

Unfortunately, most fights are mandatory, although the game may allow you to sneak up on opponents or set traps before the fights begin.

There are safe locations (example in the picture) where combat is optional, that is it won't start unless you attack someone or get caught while stealing. Sadly, you can't complete the entire game without attacking other characters.

Who is the final boss of BioShock Infinite?

As you progress through BioShock Infinite, you will encounter many strong opponents (e.g. Firemen, Zealot of the Lady, the ghost of Lady Comstock). However, the game doesn't have a full-fledged final boss. In the penultimate thirty-ninth chapter, the player has to win the final battle. However, you won't encounter an exceptionally powerful opponent. Instead, you will have to deal with numerous groups of regular enemies, mini-bosses, and flying machines.

Can I revisit locations?

Yes and no. Returning to one of the previous sites may be impossible if you make enough progress - the game will block access to the previous areas. However, you can use the replay chapters option, which wasn't available in the previous two BioShock games. This is especially useful for getting collectibles you have missed during your initial playthrough - the game keeps count of them throughout all the playthroughs. If you miss a secret, you won't have to go through the entire campaign again.

Why can't I save the game?

BioShock Infinite doesn't have the option to save the game manually. The game automatically creates new checkpoints when you reach a new location or complete an important story event. This means that you need to be more cautious since you can't make a backup save before starting a more difficult battle.

Does the game have a character progression system?

Yes and it comes with a number of functions and mechanics. The most important ones are:

Using vigors and combining them into combinations - The game has 8 types of vigors and 8 possible combinations.
Improving already owned vigors - They can become stronger or gain new properties.
Use infusions to increase the hero's stats - Each infusion can increase the health, shield, or salts ("mana") by 1 point. The maximum value for each of these parameters is 10 points.
Equipping new gear - Booker can wear a hat, vest, shoes, and pants. The equipment items come with different passive bonuses to statistics.
Upgrading weapons - Purchase upgrades, for example, to increase the damage, accuracy, or rate of fire.

Does BioShock Infinite have a hard platinum trophy?

Yes, getting the "platinum" isn't easy. This is mainly because you must finish the game at the highest difficulty level (1999 Mode) and, in addition, without using dollar bill vending machines. You have to kill enemies efficiently and manage very limited supplies.

To unlock the platinum trophy in BioShock Infinite, you must also e.g. find all the collectibles and defeat enemies using different types of weapons and vigors. The full list of trophies/achievements can be found in our trophy/achievement guide.

Can I only install BioShock Infinite on PS4?

Yes, BioShock Infinite has a separate installation on PlayStation 4. However, this is true only for the digital version of BioShock: The Collection. You can skip BioShock 1 and BioShock 2 and install BioShock Infinite separately. This will allow you to avoid downloading and installing almost 30 GB of data.

Does the remaster of BioShock Infinite contain all the original content?

Yes, this is a complete product. You can complete the entire main campaign and play all DLCs. There are three available expansions. Clash in the Clouds is a set of challenges in which you fight waves of opponents in the arenas. Burial at Sea Episode 1 and Episode 2 are two big story expansions that take you back to Rapture, an underwater city. Each of these DLCs offers trophies, but they aren't necessary to unlock the platinum trophy.

Do I need a PS+ subscription to play BioShock Infinite?

No, you don't need a PlayStation Plus subscription at all. BioShock Infinite is 100% single-player and it doesn't offer any multiplayer content.
