Banishers Ghosts of New Eden is a story-oriented game filled with difficult and ambiguous moral choices. The decisions you make during the game will have a significant impact on which ending you will see after defeating the final boss of the game. On this page, we will present you with a summary of all available conclusions to the story about the pair of banishers, and we will also suggest what to do to achieve the chosen ending.
WARNING! The following text contains significant spoilers regarding the end of the game.
- What affects the ending?
- Ascend - good ending
- Ascend - neutral ending
- Resurrection - good ending
- Breaking the oath - bad ending
What affects the ending?
The two main elements influencing the ending are:
- Oath;
- Number and type of selected Haunting Cases endings.
The first variable affects what solutions the main characters will choose. The choice to resurrect Antea will direct their attention to the final attempt to return the Banisher to the world of the living. Taking the Ascend oath will cause Red and Antea to try to send the woman's soul to the other side in peace and reconciliation at the end of the game.
It is also worth noting that the oath taken at the beginning of the game is not final. Much later in the game, the Banishers couple (and thus the player) will have the opportunity to renew their oath. You can change the original oath at any time or decide to stick to the previous choice.
The second important aspect that affects the ending are the decisions you will make when solving Haunting Cases. It will also be important whether the choices you make are consistent with the oath you took. We will discuss the precise nuances associated with the combination of specific conditions and their consequences when describing specific endings.
Ascend - good ending
In conclusion, Red and Antea happily defeat the Nightmare haunting the town of New Eden and recover the Banisher's dead body. The couple say their last fond farewells, and Antea departs peacefully. In the epilogue, we learn about the further fate of Red, who after many years, surrounded by his family and loved ones, remembers his old love.
To achieve this ending, you have to take the Ascend oath and spare almost every soul on your path. Focus on the Spirit Ascension or Banishment options, and show mercy to the living instead of killing them. This ending of the story can be considered a bittersweet conclusion - death ultimately separates the lovers, but during their adventures they were guided by mercy and ultimately found peace.
From our experience, making only merciful choices during the main plot and individual side quests is completely sufficient to activate this version of the ending.
Ascend - neutral ending
This ending is somewhat similar to the previous one. Antea once again makes the final transition to the other side, but before that, the pair of lovers have their last, quite emotional conversation. In the epilogue, we also see how the Scottish banisher cannot cope with the loss of the love of his life and, torn by emotions, decides to visit Antea's home island - Cuba.
Achieving this ending will require walking a fine line. On the one hand, you will have to sacrifice more settlers than in the previous ending. However, the number of victims cannot be so great that the oath of Ascension is finally broken. In practice, this means that in most cases you will have to choose merciful options like Ascension or Banishment, but in a few cases it will be necessary to sacrifice the living.
Resurrection - good ending
In this ending, Red successfully performs an ancient ritual that brings Antea back to life. The lovers suffer the effects of traumatic events for many years. Thier love remains unchanged and ultimately even overcomes death itself.
To reach this epilogue, it will be necessary to take the Resurrection oath and sacrifice as many settlers as possible. The requirements of this ending are much stricter than the previous two, and it may be necessary to perform additional side activities in order to draw a little more life essence from the sacrificed people.
Although this ending helps banishers reunite, during the game their paths will be marked with blood and pain. The morally dubious nature of some harsh decisions affects the ultimately strongly ambiguous tone of the ending.
Breaking the oath - bad ending
This ending basically has two variants, but each of them involves failing to keep the previously made oath of Ascension or Resurrection. In this version of the story, Red is unable to help his dead lover, which exposes him to ridicule and slander from Nightmare. The protagonists get help from the Seeker, but she is unable to defeat the powerful spirit of Deborah. Red is trapped in a time loop and together with the player returns to the very beginning of the story, where he has another chance to correct his mistakes.
This unpleasant variant of the ending of the story is activated if during the game you act against your oath. Too few souls sacrificed for the Resurrection path or too many corpses on the Ascension path will cause the demonic Nightmare to use the lack of consequences of the heroes against them.
