The following page of the guide to Age of Empires 4 contains a walthrough of the France in Chaos mission in The Hundred Years War campaign. You will learn how to collect gold and end the raids on the Evreux settlement. You will also read about how to defend the monastery in Cocherel from the rebels and how to destroy the enemy camp.
Defending Evreux
The mission begins in the city of Evreux. Send your troops in front of the northeast gate and rebuild the destroyed structures before they burn to the ground.
Repair the military buildings and the Town Center first. Then take care of the houses and the watchtowers. You can also complete the fortifications and put up more watchtowers.
Then send workers to collect resources and start making new soldiers. Place the Rally Point at the northwest gate. Use a Scout to explore the nearest areas and collect the sheep nearby.
Your city will be invaded by the English. There are 2 ways to stop the raids. You must destroy the English base, located northwest of the city, or pay a tribute of 1,000 gold.
You won't find any gold mines in the area. In order to get the resources for the tribute you have to take back the 2 remaining cities as soon as possible.
You will find several gold chests guarded by wolves near Evreux.
Leave a group of soldiers at the northwest gate and set out to conquer Jouy and Croisy.
Taking back villages
Gather a minimum of 15 archers and 15 infantry, and take the road to the northeast. Eliminate all enemies in Jouy to reclaim the village. After taking back the villages, send their residents to work on the farms.
You will find the Sacred Site to the east. If the Sacred Site belongs to the enemy, kill all military units, including the religious one, and neutralize the Sacred Site. To neutralize an enemy Sacred Site, your units must stand in the red circle until the red bar under the object name disappears.
Keep moving east until you reach the end of the map. After seizing Croisy, hire locals to work in the gold mine.
By taking over Croisy, you will quickly gather the necessary amount of gold to stop the English raids on Evreux.
The 2nd Sacred Site is near the western part of Cocherel. Send some soldiers there to cut off the flow of gold to the enemy's treasury.
Leave some soldiers in Jouy and Croisy and head for the last village.
Taking back and defending Cocherel
Before heading to Cocherel, don't forget to leave some soldiers at the Sacred Site between Jouy and Croisy. Gather 30 infantry soldiers and 30 archers, and set out for Cocherel.
When raiding the last village, first destroy the 2 watchtowers and the city gate. Once you're inside, get rid of all enemy units.
When you reclaim Cocherel, you will automatically move on to the 3rd era. This will give you access to religious units. You can now hire some Monks to take over the Sacred Site.
Once you recapture the city, enemies will attack you at the north gate. The new mission objective will be to defend the city and the religious building. Leave a small squad at the north gate and rally the army to set out for the enemy camp near the north end of the map.
Build Stables and start making new units in all military buildings.
Raiding the enemy camp
When setting out for an enemy camp, your army should consist of:
- 70 archers,
- 50 infantry,
- 6 Monks,
- 10 horsemen,
Divide your troops and head north. You may encounter a squad of enemy horsemen along the way.
When you reach the camp, the battle will begin. A bar will appear in the upper left corner of the screen, showing the progress of the battle
Enemy archers will be the first squad to attack you. Counterattack quickly with cavalry and infantry. When enemy horsemen and spearmen join the battle, send your archers at them. Monks should remain at a safe distance and regenerate health near the front line.
