This page of the guide to Age of Empires 4 contains a walkthrough of the Blockade at Lumen Shan mission in The Mongol Empire campaign. You'll learn where to put up defensive walls to block the Chinese army's route.
Building the blockade
The first task of the mission is to take control of the city of Lumen. First, send out a Scout to explore the area and locate enemy troops who hide between the trees. You will also find several supply crates in the surrounding woods.
Follow the path to Lumen and eliminate all enemies you encounter along the way. When you destroy the enemy fort, the entire area of Lumen will be revealed. Collect the rest of the crates and divide your army into 2 groups.
When new mission objectives appear, send 1 squad of your army in front of the bridge located on the southeastern edge of the map to block the enemy troops' route.
Hire some new Villagers to work in the quarry, and some Traders to create a new trade route between Lumen and Hanshui Port Market.
Send the 2nd squad to the town of Bohekou, which is marked on the map. Once you've taken control of the town, position your troops along the road into the mountains to block further routes of enemy units.
Start hiring new warriors in Bohekou and build a Monastery. Buy some Monks and send them to the troops wich block the roads to Xiangyang and Fancheng.
By this time, your workers should have collected enough stone to build fortifications. Build walls, a gate and 2 towers. In each tower, buy 1 of the 2 available upgrades and place long-distance units on the wall. Send your close combat units in front of the wall and prepare for incoming enemy waves.
Defending the walls
Once the walls are up, new mission objectives will appear. You will have to stop 8 enemy units what will come from the south.
You should also place a few Villagers at each wall to repair any damage.
The next enemy waves will be equipped with siege machines. Try to destroy the ballistic machines first, as they can decimate your army.
Keep making new troops and send them to defend the walls. In between attacks, make sure that Monks heal your units.
