Mission Control - the types of missions | XCOM Base XCOM: Enemy Unknown Guide

Last update: 11 May 2016

In addition to the missions that consist in shooting down UFOs and collecting their wreckage, there is a whole range of other random events, which we have to face:

  • UFO Crash Site - the above-mentioned mission of securing the downed UFO crash site. We need to catch or kill all the aliens are in the area. Damaging the components inside the ship reduces the amount of components gained after the battle.
  • UFO Landing Site - as in the case above, we have to secure the area of the UFO landing. This time, the ship is intact, so we have to approach it with caution, and use minimal amounts of explosives to collect as many components as possible.
  • Alien Abduction - the most common type of missions in the game, which consists in shooting / catching all aliens (the first event in the game, it was Alien Abduction). Since there are no civilians or equipment, all tactics are allowed.
  • Alien Terror Attack - mission appears more or less once a month. Aliens are attacking a city, and our goal is to save the greatest number of people. This can be done in two ways: either by eliminating all aliens, or running up to each individual civilians: after putting a soldier on an adjacent field, it will be evacuated.
  • Extraction - one of the missions ordered by the Council. It involves getting to our destination and then ensuring that a VIP is escorted back to the Skyranger. In this type of missions, the aliens often receive additional reinforcements, appearing in random places on the map.
  • Rescue - mission commissioned by the Council. The tasks placed before us are the same as in Extraction - we need to get to the VIP and allow him to escape. Again alien may obtain additional reinforcements during the mission.
  • Bomb Disposal - another type of mission commissioned by the Council. This time the strike team has to disarm the bomb, which the aliens control. We have to do reach the explosive device and deactivate it before it explodes. It is possible to gain extra time by turning off the smaller power sources. Just put a soldier on the field next to the generator (or bomb) and then, if you have at least one action point to the device, press the left mouse button.
  • Asset Recovery - the last type of mission commissioned by the Council. This task is similar to that which occurs in the case of Alien Abduction: it is sufficient to eliminate all the alien forces.

Completing the mission involves a lot of benefits. Not only we slow down the alien invasion and prevent the spread of chaos in the world, but also often reduce panic in some countries, and even continents around the world at the same time! In addition, we receive for work performed by different types of awards: scientists, engineers, experienced soldiers, and money. Not counting bonuses offered by individual countries and the international board, ground mission execution guarantees us a large amount of foreign components and equipment. Plasma weapons, parts of weapons and spacecraft, alien bodies, even living aliens, which we can then interrogate: all this thing we can receive only by fighting directly with the enemy. If this is possible, it is worth sending our team on every mission, so that we do not fall behind in the arms race.
