The drought in Timberborn can last from 2 to over a dozen days. When your main water source dries up, you could lose your crops and trees. On this page of the guide we explain how to be well-prepared for the drought and how to survive the dry season.

Preparing for the drought

To ensure your colony's survival throughout the drought, your main concern is storing any type of food and water. However, other resources will come in handy to maintain production in workshops or bakeries.

Water can be collected through water pumps and then stored in water tanks. Put up a water pump and a few small warehouses to quickly accumulate the most critical resource for surviving the drought.

You can obtain food in several ways:

1. harvest wild blueberries, which will take 12 days to regrow;
2. build a farmhouse and plant carrots first;
3. build an aquatic farmhouse and plant aquatic crops, which must be partially submerged in water.

Logs are the next most essential resource for your colony's survival. They power almost all production buildings, such as the bakery and grill. Remember that some cultivated vegetables need to be properly prepared before they are fit for consumption. Impending drought

The upcoming drought will be indicated in the upper right corner of the screen. When the drought begins, the length of time it will last will be displayed. If you notice that you haven't accumulated enough resources, it's a good idea to extend your working hours before the drought arrives to give your beavers more time to gather water and food.

If you lacked the time to plant vegetables or build enough water pumps, the period until the upcoming drought may not be enough to catch up.

Before the drought begins, it's a good idea to harvest all crops as soon as possible, because the vegetables might wilt just as soon as your main water source dries up. Carrot and potato crops can hold out for a few more days during the drought, but wheat and all water crops will dry out almost immediately.

In the farmhouse, you can assign crop priority so that your beavers know which vegetables to harvest first. You also have the option to set the priority to planting or harvesting. In normal weather, always set it to planting, but as soon as the drought approaches, switch to harvesting.

Keeping hydrated during the drought

A great way to maintain your crops during a drought is to create enclosed lakes or a system of narrow rivers by shaping the land with explosives. Then build a floodgate to cut off said river or lake from the main water source.

Next to the artificially created lake or river, put up a farmhouse and before the drought arrives, close the floodgate to keep water in the reservoir while the main river dries up. The deeper the lake or riverbed, the longer it will hold water during a drought. When the drought has passed, open the floodgates again and fill the reservoirs back up.

Rationing food and water

If your food and water supplies are about to run out and the drought is expected to last a few more days, you can begin rationing these resources. Beavers should eat and drink every day, but going on a strict diet for one day won't do them any harm.

As you start running out of resources, remove roads that lead to warehouses or water tanks. Hold your beavers like this for 24 hours, then put the paths back in place and let them eat.

You can repeat the food rationing process until the drought is complete. Remember, however, that afterwards the vegetables will need a few days to regrow, so you will need another 4 days before the carrots will grow.
