Timberborn: Developing the settlement Timberborn - guide, tips

This page contains tips on developing a beaver colony in the game Timberborn - building a settlement step by step.

Last update: 02 September 2022

Proper development of a beaver settlement in Timberborn requires familiarizing yourself with available types of materials and buildings. On this page of the guide, we explain how to start building your first colony step by step and which objects to put up first. We suggest what to pay attention to and which raw materials are essential for survival.

Basic resources

In Timberborn, there are 3 basic resources that will be necessary for the survival of your colony:

  1. water,
  2. food (in the beginning it may be blueberries and carrots),
  3. logs.

When you keep the production of these 3 things at a decent level, you can start developing your beaver settlement.

Build several Lumberjacks, mark trees to be felled, and place Log pile - Timberborn: Developing the settlement - Basics - Timberborn Guide

Build several Lumberjacks, mark trees to be felled, and place Log pile. Then build a Hauling post near the shrubs and a small warehouse. Finally, put a water pump by the river bank and some water tanks.

Build at least one Inventor building and start collecting science points to unlock new types of facilities. As the settlement grows, put up more Inventors to accumulate points faster.

Before the first drought, you should also build a farm and plant carrots.

Residential buildings

The next priority for your colony should be houses. In the Iron Teeth faction, houses are only required for the overall satisfaction score of the colony. Folktails, however, need houses to reproduce.

Production buildings will require workers. To ensure that you don't run out of adult beavers capable of working, we recommend that you build an adequate number of houses as soon as you survive the first drought.

At the beginning of the game, you will have only basic residential buildings to choose from - Timberborn: Developing the settlement - Basics - Timberborn Guide

At the beginning of the game, you will have only basic residential buildings to choose from. When you collect enough science points, you will be able to buy bigger houses. You can stack all these objects on top of each other and build tall towers or fancy structures.

Playing architect in Timberborn is a lot of fun. By adding different types of roofs and decorations, you can create a unique beaver district.

Production buildings

Besides logs, the basic building material is planks. Planks are produced in a Lumber mill, which requires power. At the beginning of the game, you will generate the most power with the water wheel. You can read the most important information about the water wheel on the page: Water wheel - where to build?

When you produce enough planks, immediately place a Forester building and plant trees. That way you won't run out of logs when you cut down all the trees within range of your settlement.

Also put up farms and plant crops as soon as possible. Remember that some vegetables are immediately suitable for consumption, while others will need to be cooked in the appropriate buildings.

The next building material is gears - Timberborn: Developing the settlement - Basics - Timberborn Guide

The next building material is gears. With them, you will build larger warehouses and water tanks. As you accumulate the necessary resources, build the rest of the workshops to be able to produce all the things available in the game.

You can find more information on materials on a separate page of the guide: Materials and resources.

Entertainment and decoration

Once you have a fully developed craft industry, you can start thinking about increasing the satisfaction of your colony - Timberborn: Developing the settlement - Basics - Timberborn Guide

Once you have a fully developed craft industry, you can start thinking about increasing the satisfaction of your colony. You will find the score in the upper left corner of the screen.

Different buildings provide different bonuses, depending on which faction you play as. Go through all the facilities and try to satisfy every need of the beavers.

Landscaping

The ability to build dams and floodgates gives you control over the flowing river. Retaining water in lakes and smaller rivers will keep your land hydrated during a long drought. Hydrated soil is essential for growing trees and all crops.

Landscaping is one of the most interesting tools in the game. With dynamite, produced in the Explosives Factory, you can create rivers, lakes and change the levels of the land.
