Good picker tactic - searching through location | Night trips This War of Mine Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
After moving to selected location you gain control over your character. Since it's a foreign territory and it's night, only the nearest surroundings will be completely visible. You must move carefully and quietly. You never know who you might meet on your road. You definitely should avoid running. It might alarm those who live in the house you are trying to get in. Before entering a new place, you should watch through the keyhole to see if there isn't anyone on the other side of the door. The noise system might inform you with a red, pulsating circles about enemy presence, but it works both ways, so try not to make too much noise. It's better to be quiet all the time.
If you are certain that place you're in is a private property, you must at all cost avoid being detected. In an abandoned house you might find some homeless person who will not mind you being there. But if you're inside a private house or shelter, where you will try to steal someone's supplies, the locator might not be pleased about it. A very useful action, that will greatly help you, is hiding in shadows in specific places (there are specific action symbols above them).
Let's focus on your main objective, gathering some supplies. Searching through furniture and lockers works similar as in your hideout. The only difference occurs when you try to search through an object while being seen by the place owner. In that case, the action symbol changes it's shape and informs you that what you are trying to do will be treated like theft. No one likes to be robbed, so it usually means a battle (unless you're dealing with old people, they will run to other room and beg for mercy). You can always try to avoid fighting by running away, but when enemy has machete or gunfire, then you might be in serious trouble.
