The ability to recruit land units is available in Stellaris from the beginning of the game. However, as the time progresses, new technologies appear that allow creating much more powerful units. Every individual assault or defense unit can have different attachments offering various bonuses.

You can recruit land units from the very beginning of the gameplay. As you progress, new technologies will be discovered, and thus more powerful troops will be available. Each army can have different modifications, so boosts will differ as well.

The following list presents available land units and upgrades.

Comment: you will need special vats to create this unit. Despite low HP, its high morale makes it a useful unit. If you learn cloning soon enough, you will gain a large advantage over more primitive races.

Comment: expensive but powerful units. Due to mediocre HP, you should invest in available upgrades first.

Comment: powerful but expensive soldiers. Invest in additional components and they will become a devastating force. Due to high morale damage, it is easier to conquer planets.

Attachments

The presented components are an essential part of the technological development. You should try to equip each produced unit with useful attachments. At first these will be minor upgrades, but later on in the game you will unlock powerful boosts. Use different attachments on your Assault Armies. This will significantly improve the final result. Once you unlock the strongest units, you can forget about the old ones.

Comment: cheap, primary upgrade. Especially useful when you want to recruit a lot of troops and keep them in your garrisons. Improving their HP is a key priority.

Comment: a component useful to robots and androids that have relatively a lot of HP, but not that great fire power.

Comment: a more powerful and more expensive module. Similar to the previous one, it's best to attach it to units with a lot of HP which will balance their effectiveness on the battlefield. Remember that the boost is 25%.

Comment: a useful attachment for units with low damage and morale. Although, it improves the effectiveness of certain units, it is not recommended for weaker troops.
