This page of our Steelrising guide contains a walkthrough of the For the future of the kingdom quest. You'll receive it from La Fayette once you leave the cordelier monastery after The shadows of Luxembourg quest.
The first part of the quest has two stages. You must find the cargo and the soldiers who were supposed to intercept it. You will have the opportunity to complete both of these tasks during the mission To Les Invalides. The next step is to find and talk to the mysterious Marat.
The site of the exchange
After heading to Les Invalides, turn right from the horseless carriage. You've already visited this area before.
Walk through the park in front of the workshop. Watch out for patrolling Acolytes. You'll learn more about them on the Acolytes page.
Take the path starting from the park's exit gate. Go past the broken carriage. You'll encounter a Heavy prototype along the way (we've described it on the Prototypes page of our guide).
Keep following the path until you reach the square where you'll face an Assault Acolyte and a Frost Acolyte. Start going uphill. You'll encounter a Stalker (more info about them on the Serpents page). You'll reach another square with a well and pig carcasses. You'll encounter light jaguars here (more about them on the Felines page) and a Lancer higher up (more about him on the Guards page).
From the square, turn right. Follow the path until you reach the stairs.
Climb them, then climb up the crates and jump onto the balcony. Get through the room. Behind it is a square with a bonfire. Jump down to it. You'll face an Acolyte, a Musketeer and a regular Prototype.
Facing away from the building you jumped off of, turn right from the square, next to the statue. Keep going until you reach the stairs guarded by a Prototype. Go down.
Follow the path and pass through the square guarded by an Acolyte.
In front of the wooden gate you will meet a friend of the queen. Talk to her. Then go through the passage behind her. Interact with the bodies by the carriage. Talk to the queen's envoy again. This completes the objective.
The riders
You still need to find La Fayette's soldiers to continue the quest. Return to the horseless carriage. In order to discover the troops's fate you must reach The Treasurer of Les Invalides. We've described how to get to the boss on a previous page of the guide - To Les Invalides.
On the right side of the arena, from the spot you've jumped down, there is a gate. Walk through it to reach a park. There's a Vestal there you can start up, if you'd like.
The quest, however, will take you further down this path. After a while you'll spot a pile of corpses. Read the letter you'll find next to them. You can now report back to La Fayette. There's no need to meet with him personally. Use the Mail menu in a horseless carriage instead. The general will order you to find Marat.
Marat
You'll find Marat during The Recluse of the Abyss main quest. Once you reach him, ask him about the royal children. You'll learn de Laclos is the only person who can grant you such information.
To talk to him, you must defeat the Centaur Titan and free de Laclos from the coffin (collect all the Choderlos de Laclos Echoes).
After defeating the boss and freeing de Laclos, ask about the children (choose the dialogue option about his goals). He'll tell you the king has them. Return to the cordelier monastery and tell La Fayette what you've learned. This concludes the quest.
