On this page of the guide to Steelrising, you will find a walkthrough of the quest Checkmate. This is the last mission in the game. During it, you will face the Iron Queen Titan and the mini-boss Unstable Gargoyle. You will meet La Fayette, find an Automat in the marble courtyard and visit the Royal domain.

Useful information about the mission
It is worth remembering that Checkmate is the last mission in the game. If you want to do some other side activities before finishing the game, now is the time. Your choices during side quests can affect the game's ending. At this point you also have one last chance to collect the missing Echoes related to Athenais de Vaucanson. The last one can be obtained during this mission, the others are hidden elsewhere in the world.
Before heading to Saint-Cloud to complete the Checkmate quest, the game will inform you about creating a save. However, once you finish the game, loading that save will show the end credits (as of September 30, 2022). This means that you will not be able to complete side quests that you have not done before finishing this mission. All that will be left for you to do is to continue the game in the NG mode added on September 29, 2022 .
Automats
The final quest awaits. Expect a lot of opponents. You will face all enemy types, but not all the variants. You can learn about enemy types here: Prototypes, Guards, Serpents, Felines, Acolytes, Musicians, Hunters, Cooks, Labourers, Rams, and Arachnids.
The area of the Royal domain
Head to Versailles. You will reach a big square. There are several Guards hanging around. Go to the right side of the courtyard. There is a curved fence. Above it is a point where you can pull yourself up.
Go to the other side and jump down to the square below. Here you will encounter Prototypes, Arachnids, Acolytes, Felines and a Ram. Go to the other end of the courtyard - there is an open passage. Go through it.
On the other side you will see a Vestal. Activate it. Use the hedge passage near the respawn point. There is an Echoe behind it. Now pull up to the balcony, which is located near the entrance to the square. Follow the upper level to the previous courtyard.
Using the Selenite Momentum, jump over the balconies and then to the other side of the courtyard. Climb up the crates to the scaffolding and jump off.
You will land on a wide path. Follow it. It is guarded by Prototypes and a Ballista Ram. Head up the stairs to the top. There you will come across Felines.
Use the footbridge to jump over the hole in the hedge to the other side of the road. Enter the maze. Follow the path. Along the way, you will fight a Harvester.
Go to the upper level of the park. You will face a Harvester, a Gargoyle and a Prototype. Follow the road and access the other side of the park through a hole in the wall (there is a shortcut on the right, before you go through the hole).
General de La Fayette
Cross the wide road and enter the park (no matter through which entrance). Be careful, because there are Felines on the path. You will enter a square with a large stone in the middle. There you will find a Lumberer and Arachnids. Go on (from the square to the left).
In the maze, turn right. Walk along the main path (you will encounter Arachnids and a Harvester) until you reach the hole. Jump down to it. Go through the tunnel and come out on the other side. Follow the road further and go through the hole in the hedge. There is a Harvester behind it.
Go straight, then left - go through another hole in the hedge. There is a shortcut on the left, go right.
You will reach a large square with the mini-boss Unstable Gargoyle. You can read more about it on a separate page of the guide. Be careful, because there are a lot of Prototypes around the arena. After the battle, activate the Vestal.
Standing with your back to the respawn point, the exit from the square will be on the left. Follow the road straight and destroy the wall that stands in your way. Go through the area with the lake and enter the large square in front of the palace. To its left from where you entered is the Echoe associated with the queen.
Head now to the front of the building to meet with La Fayette. Go down the stairs to the large area below. The stairs on the left will lead you to a small park. There is the last Echoe linked to Athenais de Vaucanson. To continue the quest, you must go to the stairs on the right and from them jump to the breach in the wall. You have to be ready to fight Guards, Labourers, Felines, Prototypes and Rams.
Automat in the marble courtyard
From where you are, jump down to the path below. You should recognize it - you were here before. This time, go to its end and open the gate with the key. Along the way, you will face Guards, Felines and a Ram. After passing through the gate, activate a Vestal.
There are Labourers and Felines in the square. Walk through it. To the left of the closed main gate is an open gate in the hedge. Turn right after going through it, you will reach a fountain. Nearby is a basin with a spot where you can pull up.
Follow the path - you will encounter Felines along the way. You will reach a square with a Gargoyle and Arachnids. There's a chest with an Oil Burette upgrade. Follow the road. Pass a Prototype, and at the intersection go straight ahead.
You will reach a square with a Hunter, a Cook and a Ram. You must climb the stairs, the ones located farther from where you came from. Using the Selenite Momentum, jump from them to the opposite stairs.
Go upstairs. You can unlock the opposite gate - it is a shortcut. Before the gate, turn right.
At the end of the path on the right is the last Echoe related to the queen. Now unlock the gate with the mechanism and take the lever from the remains of the Automat near the passage. Move through the tunnel.
You will reach the square where you started the level. Interact with the Horseless Carriage (so that if you die, you won't have far to go to the respawn point). Repair the mechanism located in front of the main gate. Enter the plaza behind it and along the footbridges enter the arena to fight the final boss - The Iron Queen Titan. Defeating this Titan will end the game. You will see a cut-scene showing the choices you have made.
