Infantry in Steel Division 2 Steel Division 2 guide, tips
Last update: 21 August 2019
Infantry is the core of every division. It will occupy the area, fight the enemy, destroy the guns and artillery, battle in hard-to-reach areas. As one of the few types of troops, it can move around and benefit from the protection of dense forests, hide in buildings and trenches, cross marshes and shallow rivers. Their main weapons are rifles and machine guns, which affect all "soft" units, i.e. those which power and damage rate is expressed in the number of units. All armored targets, i.e. tanks, vehicles and some trucks, will be immune to this type of weapon. Some units have grenades or armor-piercing guns, but with a small range. All infantry units have a very good hiding rate so they can ambush and easily destroy enemy armor.
Rifle Squad, Assault Squad
These are the basic types of infantry units, which are cheap and versatile. Use them to capture territory and maintain your position. Rifle squads are more versatile due to the variety of weapons. It is worth choosing such units, which have not only ordinary rifles, but also pistols and machine guns and anti-tank armor. In this way, such troops can fight the enemy at any distance. Most teams have from 10 to even 15 soldiers (although there are exceptions with 5 or 20-person teams). The more soldiers there are, the longer the troops will stay alive. Assault teams usually have only machine guns and smoke grenades. These are ideal for short range battles, e.g. when occupying cities and villages or fighting in forests. They are ideal for taking over buildings occupied by the enemy. All infantry teams are delivered by trucks to the battlefield. If such a vehicle is armed or armored, it often stays and joins the fight. Most of the assault teams are transported by such vehicles.
Assault Engineers
These are smaller teams of shooters, with similar stats and weapons as the regular teams. Their greatest advantage are anti-personnel grenades, flamethrowers or TNT, i.e. explosive charges. This weapon can destroy or nail enemy troops one attack at a time. They can also blow up buildings and turn them into ruins. Due to their nature and armament, they are more specialized units and it is worth using them only in specific situations.
Flamethrower
These are dedicated infantry unit sections that have a flamethrower and/or smoke grenades. Their main goal is to break the morale of your opponent. They can also set buildings on fire in a short period of time, eliminating many enemy troops if they get very close to the target. Interestingly, they can also suppress enemy armored vehicles, which is a good alternative if you don't have anti-panzer cannons or weapons nearby. These are small units, so it is worth taking care of flamethrowers and protect them from enemy fire.
Leaders
These are command units that have an officer in their ranks. Leaders have a special command aura that increases the experience of nearby troops, prevents them from surrendering and helps them to fight. Usually they consist of a few units with different weapons. Some units have only machine guns and some have up to 9 soldiers, HE or smoke grenades, machine guns or armor-piercing weapons. These are valuable units that you cannot recruit in large quantities. It is worth taking care of them and always send them with large groups of your soldiers.
