28. Jager | Divisions of the Axis in Steel Division 2 Steel Division 2 guide, tips
Last update: 20 August 2019
The 28th Infantry Division Jager is one of the best infantry troops for the German side on the eastern front. The main strengths of these divisions are infantry and reconnaissance support, anti-tank and artillery guns, plus air forces. The infantry slowly conquers the terrain and the other troops support their position. Division tactics is aimed at slow terrain conquest and defensive tactics. Due to lack of heavy armor and strong tanks, commanding infantry always requires skillful tactics and appropriate resource management.
The most numerous group of units are, of course, infantry units. You can add up to 10 types of troops to a battle group, of which the first five cost only 1 activation point. The 28th division can use small quantities of Ersatztruppen and Jager Pioneers. This first squad is made up of soldiers with an uncertain engagement in the fight, which means that their morale decreases faster during the fight. The pioneers have HE grenades, which may kill a large number of enemy soldiers from a shorter distances. The basic strength of this division is the infantry called Jager and Sturmjager. Both units have 10 soldiers each and are mostly armed with machine guns. Jager have MP40 machine guns and Panzerfausts, while Sturmjager mainly fight with the help of MP44 and have some anti-tank grenades. You can only summon experienced units to the battlefield to increase their effectiveness.
Among the support units, there's a Stug 42. This is a modified version of Stug III, which has a very strong HE cannon. It's the perfect support unit because it not only destroys infantry units but also quickly eliminates other types of minor enemy units. The Pak 40 75 mm cannon, with a range of 2 km and excellent penetration of 190 mm, stands out in comparison with other anti-tank units. It is the strongest anti-tank unit in this division, so it should be protected and placed behind the frontline. Another strength of this division is its varied and strong artillery - 75mm, 105mm, 150mm guns and Nebelwerfer artillery. There is also an observation aircraft available to choose, which can summon the firing of 175mm batteries from outside the maps to a selected area within its range.
Jager Division can use a wide range of planes. You can take advantage of 8 slots of aircraft support. You can use reconnaissance planes, fighters, light and heavy bombers and tank destroyers. HS 129 has an anti-tank gun that can easily destroy most armored vehicles. Heavy but slow He 111 bombers can bombard enemy positions with as many as 32 pieces of 50 kilogram bombs or two 1000 kilogram charges. The latter option is not so accurate, but it can destroy not only infantry units but also the strongest tanks.
The weakest side of this division are tanks and anti-aircraft guns. You can only add a limited number of Stug III G to a battle group. These are average tanks, with quite a high price for medium tanks. Anti-aircraft units are mainly 20mm and 37mm guns. They can stop enemy air strikes pretty well, but that's all. A few of these units can destroy enemy planes, but it's quite expensive.
