Sea of Thieves: Tucking - plundering tips Sea Of Thieves guide, walkthrough

Last update: 13 July 2020

In this chapter of the guide to Sea of Thieves the player will learn about Tucking and how it can be used for obtaining additional valuable treasures.

Tucking is a great way of playing Sea of Thieves for anyone who likes hiding and waiting for the right time to attack and steal someone's hard earned goods or to loot someone's ship. Unfortunately, pirates sailing the Sea of Thieves become more and more cautious. Because of that, using Tucking requires some effort.

Tucking - how to hide effectively

You can find plenty of shadows and well covered spots on ships and inside forts. You can hide in them. These spots include lower ship decks, barrels, even cannons. Remember that you will need one of the Hide emoticons to hide properly. It will enable you to hide your nick and provide proper camouflage.

The brightness in the above picture was greatly increased so that it is possible to see the character in black clothes (marked with a red frame) crouching behind the cannon by using the Hide emoticon. A character hidden in such way can remain on someone's boat for a long time, especially during night, waiting for the right time to start stealing valuable goods.

Tucking - general advice

If you want to try Tucking, you should consider a few important matters that might make hiding your character and performing a successful attack or robbery much easier.

  1. The right outfit - make sure that your character doesn't shine like a tree decorated with LED lights. Glowing, expensive clothes look awesome, but they won't help you when attempting a robbery or a surprise attack. They will easily guide your enemies towards your character. Select dark clothes for Tucking, preferably completely black or gray ones, with no lights or decorations.
  2. Take off your shoes - no, this one isn't related to being a nice guy and not taking any dirt to someone's deck. A character running in shoes is making a very specific and loud noise that can reveal your presence;
  3. Hide emoticon - players' nicks appear directly above characters in Sea of Thieves and they have a well visible green color. This doesn't help when you try to hide. Because of that, you must use special Hide emoticon that will completely hide your name;
  4. Character's size - a slim and short pirate has much greater chance for hiding successfully than a big one. If you created a big character, you can use a special potion (Pirate Appearance Potion) that will enable you to change the looks of your pirate. The drink can be bought in the shop with additional items available for real currency;
  5. Best spots for Tucking - the best spots in which you can hide are shadowed spots in which your character can literally bled with the surroundings. When attempting to rob a fort, you can choose a guard tower from which you can freely observe as your future victims are gathering your future loot;
  6. Boarding a hostile ship - if you found a ship to steal from, you should set sails in such way that your ship will sail in opposite direction. Then, jump into the water and swim towards the hostile boat. Try to swim towards it underwater, this will reduce the chance for enemies to detect you;
  7. Food - always have some additional food with you, preferably cooked meat or fish. If you are detected and a battle starts on the deck, you will need to quickly replenish your health;
  8. Be patient - it might take some time for an opportunity to arrive. That's what Tucking is all about.

Tucking - best clothes

Choose as dark clothes as possible for Tucking - black or dark gray clothes are the best. Such camouflage will give you certainty that you will be harder to detect in the spot in which you have hidden - especially during evenings and nights. Luckily, while traversing the world of Sea of Thieves, you will encounter many shopkeepers who sell additional clothes. You should easily find something that will suit your character.
