Sea of Thieves: Hostile skeletons types, list, guide Sea Of Thieves guide, walkthrough

Last update: 13 July 2020

From this chapter of the guide, the player will learn what enemy skeletons he may encounter during the game and how to defeat them.

In the world of Sea of Thieves, you may come across different types of enemy skeletons. The most common is a normal skeleton, which stands out in no particular way - it is white in colour and wears no clothing, and can only withstand two hits from a cutlass. Sometimes you may come across other types of skeletons that will wear a bandana in a particular color, or even special skeletons in full uniform.

Types of enemy skeletons in Sea of Thieves - how to defeat them

While sailing in the open waters of Sea of Thieves and performing various missions on land, such as Bounty Voyages, Skeleton Forts or when fighting a fleet of skeleton ships, you can encounter different types of enemy skeletons. Skeletons can be armed with melee weapons (hook, cutlasses) or even firearms. Some are also capable of carrying explosives.

Avoid wasting ammunition on ordinary skeletons, as you only need a few cutlass attacks to defeat them - Sea of Thieves: Hostile skeletons types, list, guide - For Landlubbers - Sea Of Thieves Guide
  1. Emergent Skeletons - these skeletons appear when the player character is on an island trying to complete a task assigned to him. Emergent Skeletons pop up from the ground near the player's position every 1-3 minutes in groups of 1 to 4 skeletons;
  2. Gold Skeletons - these skeletons are covered in a layer of gold making them resistant to cutlass damage. They are vulnerable to explosives, firearms projectiles, or cannonballs. Another weak point of gold skeletons is water. On contact with water, the skeletons rust, making them slower and easier to eliminate;
  3. Plant Skeletons - These skeletons can be easily recognized because plants and algae grow from their "bodies". They are vulnerable to cutlass attacks and melee weapons but if they come into contact with water, they heal immediately, so they have to be fought on land;
  4. Shadow Skeletons (Night Skeletons, Black Skeletons) - during the day they do not stand out from ordinary skeletons, but after dark they become invincible and immune to attacks. To eliminate them you have to wait until dawn or weaken them slightly with the light of a lantern;
  5. Gunpowder Skeletons - these skeletons can make a big bang, literally, because they emerge from the ground with a barrel full of gunpowder. Interestingly, gunpowder barrels can be taken from skeletons using a harpoon or detonated with a single shot from a firearm;
  6. Coral Skeletons - glowing skeletons that appear while performing Tall Tales tasks;
  7. Trap Skeletons - another type of skeleton that only appears in Tall Tales tasks, and differs only in appearance from a regular opponent;
  8. Ashen Skeletons - these skeletons are most commonly found at The Devil's Roar. They are quite resistant to fire, which causes them less damage;
  9. Ancient Skeletons - a special type of skeleton that can be encountered during Adventure and Arena modes. Ancient Skeletons are blue and carry a bag stuffed with Ancient Coins on their backs. Ancient Skeletons need to be eradicated quickly, because if the fight takes too long they will hide in the ground again. After defeating this opponent you get a certain amount of Ancient Coins;
  10. Skeleton Captains - these elite skeletons wear special clothing and a hat that indicates their high rank. They have far more health points than regular Skeletons and can use any weapon. They appear on islands during Bounty Quests and in forts;
  11. Skeleton Lords - the most powerful type of skeleton that appears during Tall Tales and raids. The Skeleton Lords have a very large health pool and cause enormous damage. Moreover, they can use additional skills like teleporting or summoning additional skeletons, as well as replenishing their missing health with fruit.

Avoid wasting ammunition on ordinary skeletons, as you only need a few cutlass attacks to defeat them. When it comes to stronger versions of these opponents, like Skeleton Captains, some effort is required, and it's recommended to use firearms if you have them.
