Sea of Thieves: Island types, locations Sea Of Thieves guide, walkthrough

Last update: 13 July 2020

In this chapter of the Sea of Thieves game guide, the player will find information about types of islands and locations that he or she can visit during the course of the game.

While navigating the vast world of Sea of Thieves, the player will have to sail to a specific island or location more than once to complete a task ordered to him or to sell caught fish or hunted meat. However, not all islands in SoT are the same, so it is worth knowing where to find stores with special items and where to look for certain NPCs.

Types of islands and locations in Sea of Thieves

The islands and locations available in Sea of Thieves can be divided by their size and type. The largest of these usually serve as trading ports, while the smallest are usually uninhabited or overrun by skeletons and may be the target of missions ordered by trading companies to players.

At the time of writing this guide, Sea of Thieves offers the following types of islands and locations:

  1. Outposts - these are the islands where each session of Sea of Thieves begins. You'll find shops, trading company representatives, and even supply barrels here. You won't find any neutral threat (skeletons) or animals on them, but you may come across other players who sometimes have hostile intentions;
  2. Seaposts are small outposts that are located on many small rocky islets. Each Seapost usually has one NPC who is a representative of The Hunter's Call.
  3. Islands - the most common locations, which can vary in shape, terrain, and size. They are the target of most types of missions. You'll find animals, buried treasures, weakest opponents and sometimes skeletal captains there;
  4. Forts - fortified islands defended by skeletons that can fire on your ship with cannons and make it difficult for you to reach the shore. Sometimes a skull-shaped cloud may appear over such islands, marking a public event - the appearance of a skeletal captain with a key to the vault;
  5. Shipwrecks - sunken ships that hide precious treasures. Their appearance is random but you may realize you are near the wreck when you notice a flock of seagulls circling over a particular point in the sea.
