Some of the vocabulary items in the game may seem troublesome for newcomers. The following words are used by Pokemon players and should not pose a threat
1.Pokemon - creatures that inhabit the Kalos region. Trainers can catch wild Pokemon and raise them to be stronger to use in battle, and eventually, challenge the Elite Four and complete the story. Several Pokemon evolve at a certain level and learn new attacks. A Pokemon may learn up to four, so choose wisely which ones You chose to forget. A balanced Pokemon knows both offensive and status boosting attacks. Each Pokemon represents a certain type. You will find the type chart in the FAQ section. Once again, keep in mind the balance. For example, a team of six, over-powered, fire type Pokemons won't be of much use in a battle with a water type creature.
2. Pokeballs - A trainer (that is You) uses Pokeballs to catch wild Pokemon. Different types of Pokeballs can be bought in PokeCenters scattered across the world.
3. Evolution - A way in which Pokemon "grow up". Most of the creatures grow up at a certain level. Some however, won't evolve unless You equip them with an evolution stone or trade them.
4. Equip - A term well known to RPG fanatics. Similar to RPG characters, Your creatures can equip certain items (You can equip Pokemon by pressing X, entering the menu section Bag and selecting items)
5. Pokedex - A Pokemon list. Pokedex is an interactive journal of the monsters You encounter. After a Pokemon is seen (be it in the wild or battle) it appears in the Pokedex, and after You obtain it, its data is transferred to the Pokedex. Apart from the type information, the data is trivial.
6. Trainers - Trainers are people who, for various reasons, catch/breed/train Pokemon. You, yourself, are a trainers and other gamers who happen to play Pokemon, refer to themselves as such. Trainers are also NPC's You will battle to win money and gain EXP to raise Your Pokemon. The strongest trainers in the game are Gym Leaders (which serve as "bosses" in the game) and the Elite Four along with the Pokemon Champion.
7. Exp - Another term familiar to RPG gamers. Experience points are gained from Pokemon Battles and, after a certain amount is reached, allow the monster to gain a level.
8. Trainers, Leaders, Elite Four - all are NPC's encountered throughout the game. Trainers, upon seeing You for the first time, will approach You and engage in battle. Gym leaders, however, have to be approached by You personally. Leaders can be found in major cities, there are eight in total. Each gym leader specializes in a certain type, so training and updating Your line-up are crucial to win. After defeating a trainer You gain a special TM and can progress the story further. Elite four and the Pokemon Champion serve as the game's final opponents. Only by progressing the story and obtaining the eight gym badges (trophies You gain from defeating the leaders), can You challenge them.
9. TM & HM- additional attacks You can teach to Your Pokemon to diverse Your line-up and create Your all-star dream team. TM's can be found, obtained from NPC's or bought in various locations. Using TM's is crucial to creating a good line-up. HM's act similarly to TM's but can also be used outside of battle. Along with the progression of the story will You get certain HM's and use them to access several locations or solve environmental puzzles.
10. Mega Evolution - a new feature in the Pokemon franchise. Few Pokemon, upon equipping a Mega stone can evolve into a stronger form. This transformation is only temporary and can be used once per battle. A mega evolution can be accessed from the attack menu and gives Your monster a stat boost. A mega evolution can be Your trump card in a, otherwise, overwhelming battle. Only few trainers in the main story can use this feature, but it is common in online play. Be careful when using a mega evolution, the opponent may use it in the right moment and overpower, even the strongest, and type-effective pokemon.
