Fighting zones - white and blue zones in PUBG PUBG Guide and Tips
Last update: 01 August 2019
The map in Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is very large - getting from one side of the map to another, especially without a vehicle, would take a lot of time. Technically this would mean that you shouldn't come across too many enemies. However, the game uses the white and blue zone system, which limits the battlefield to a small part of the map.
Several minutes after the match begins (when your character is taken to the plane), a timer will appear on the map (located in the right lower corner of the screen). Furthermore, a white zone will appear on your map, and your task will be to reach it. When the time runs out, a blue zone will also appear on the map. It will shrink until it touches borders of the white zone. Another timer will appear, and the white zone will become smaller. When the time runs out, the blue zone will shrink again. Once it touches the white zone, a new timer will appear. The whole process will repeat until the zone disappears for good.
All players outside the white zone are safe. However, if someone steps out of the blue zone, he or she will receive damage. At first, that damage will be barely visible but each time the zone gets smaller, the damage will increase. After several minutes, moving out of the blue zone will pose a real danger.
Keep in mind some details about the zones:
Try to get to the edge of the white zone, not its middle. It will be much safer as most players will be looking for their targets near the center. An exception would be a situation, in which the middle of the zone is easily accessible - when you are already near the middle, you are covered, or you own a vehicle that can safely get you there.
If you find way to the zone dangerous, wait for the last 20-30 seconds and only then move towards the edge of the zone. It's enough to reach that spot and you will draw less attention to yourself.
On your way to the zone, take cover whenever it is possible. If the shortest way will lead through an open field, take the longer route through trees, buildings, rocks or other objects that you can use to hide.
At first, the blue zone will shrink at a very high pace - the boundaries will move much faster than a character is able to walk. On the other hand, the damage will be relatively small.
As the game proceeds and the battlefield becomes smaller, the blue zone will shrink at a reduced pace. However, staying outside of it, will leave severe damage.
Keep in mind that the pace at which the blue zone moves, depends on its distance from the white one. For instance, if a new boundary of the white zone appears near the left side (and not in the middle) of the previous white zone, the blue zone will move much faster from the right side (the distance is longer), and slower from the left one (the distance is shorter).
During the first couple "phases" of the blue zone, you will be able to survive if you decide to remain outside the boundaries. Just use your basic medical supplies (e.g. bandages) and stimulants. The latter will let your character restore health points and diminish the damage.
If you play with your team and one of your teammates (or even you) has fallen outside the blue zone, it's wise for him to move as close as possible to the edge of the zone. Why you may ask? Once you revive the player, the character will not have too many health points, and after a few seconds in the blue zone, he will fall to his knees again.
