Events in Need for Speed: Most wanted (2012) comprise in quick races, ambushes, speedruns and pursuits. The first four of them are events of varying difficulty that come with individual cars. Winning, in the 1 or the 2 place, results in a car modification, mentioned in the event description, being unlocked. If you complete a given event with the best score, both of the car modifications (for the 1 and for the 2 place) will become available to you. This cuts out the time you would need to win the part awarded for the 2nd place. Pursuit is a separate event that starts after you provoke the police during a free ride. For completing each of the events, you will be awarded Speed Points, in the quantities determined by a given event and dependent on your score. During each event, there is an additional hindrance in the form of the police .What is even more, after the event ends, you will be still wanted by the police until you shake them off, or are caught.

Track races are standard circuits on an enclosed arena. The route displays on your GPS and, to make things additionally easier, there are checkpoints. Even though the route for the race is predefined, it is possible to take shortcuts, wherever possible. The spots in which it would be the easiest to leave the track (like crossroads where you have to make a turn by 90 degrees) are blocked off with a green-colored barrier for the duration of the race, which additionally points you to the right direction.
