The Battle with Zorah Magdaros in Monster Hunter World - combat, tactics & how to defeat How to defeat Zorah Magdaros - Monster Hunter World guide and walkthrough
Last update: 13 February 2018
The main objective of the story campaign is the confrontation with Zorah Magdaros. The first battle against this powerful enemy will end in failure. Eventually, you'll be able to track the beast down and challenge it once again.
First, you'll be taken on top of the beast's back, where your objective will be to destroy the magma cores. You'll have to watch out, though - when you begin attacking the cores, they will sometimes shoot flames. You'll need to avoid their attacks and break Zorah Magdaros' weak points.
There are 3 cores on the monster's body. To reach all of them, you'll need to climb the beast. Although you do not need to destroy all three to proceed to the next stage of the battle, it's a good idea to do it - you'll get more crafting materials that way.
While you're busy taking out the cores, a Nergigante will drop by. It's a very powerful monster, against which you have no chance as you are now. The only thing you can do is to attack it and hope it goes away - eventually it will.
The battle will move to the surface. Your task is to load subsequent cannons / ballistae and shoot at the enemy. It's best to approach the NPC responsible for loading the cannons to speed up the barrage. Notice that the barrier has a health bar - this means that you have a time limit, in which you need to deal a certain amount of damage to the enemy.
Eventually, you'll be ordered to fire up the new secret weapon - the Dragonator. Go to the ship below and use the lever to shoot a powerful drill into the enemy. This will weaken the beast substantially - continue shooting the drill, and the monster will be slain.
From now on, you can take on the Zorah Magdaros' optional quest (a repetition of the current quest). It may appear randomly after the completion of any other quest or after the return to Astera. The quest is a good source of gold, rare items, and so on. Repeat it when you can!
Additionally, the game world will be transformed. Move on to the next chapter to learn more about Monster Hunter World's End Game phase.
