This will be one of the most important stands to visit at the beginning of the game. Here you can supply your character with the most important items, such as healing potions and tools required to extract resources. The usefulness of the market will decrease in time, as you gain access to wider selection of crafting materials, allowing you to create practically all of the items offered here on your own. The ease of purchasing ready resources is definitely tempting, but you won't have a lot of spare gold at the beginning of the game, making self-crafted items even more important.

Additionally, there are sales (just like in real life) on the market from time to time. You should always visit the market in between your quests to check if there's no sale at that moment. During it, the prices of items will be reduced by half! This is the ideal opportunity to stock up on the most important items.

Quests

Quests in MHGen can be acquired from Gals located in each village (Bherna Gal, Kokoto Gal and so on). Those are broker-like characters who receive job offers from other NPCs. The quests are divided by difficulty levels (marked with various number of stars). Those are:

Hunting - a hunt for a large beast, without any additional requirements.

Slaying - a hunt for smaller beasts, in most cases requiring you to slay large quantity of those.

Capture - similar to hunting, but in this case you must capture the beast alive instead of killing it.

Hunt-a-thon - a hunting marathon, requiring you to hunt down more than one, large beast.

Gathering - collecting selected materials, specified by quest-givers.

Prowler - quests that can be completed only in the form of feline Prowler.

Urgent - an "urgent quest", completing which will result in unlocking a new series of quests with a higher difficulty level.

A lot of quests, aside from their primary objective, requires you to complete side objectives (sub-quest). Completing them is not mandatory, but in all cases very profitable. First things first, completing a sub-quest will increase the quest reward. Secondly, it allows you to end the main quest earlier (end via sub-quest). This is a perfect option for those who want to squeeze everything out of the quest, or for those that either want to complete it as quickly as possible, or the quest is too difficult for them to complete normally.

Urgent quests won't appear on the list unless you've completed a set amount of key quests. Key quests are in most cases visible on the list from the start, but those aren't marked any different from the rest of objectives - you won't be able to distinguish the key ones from the "filler" ones. You have two solutions to this problem. You can either complete all of the quests and finally unlock the urgent one, or use the internet and identify all of the key quests and focus on them. A lot of the quests won't be visible on the list from the start. In order to unlock them, you must speak with NPCs - the ones you're interested in can be easily identified by red and yellow icons hovering above their heads. Yellow icon represents side quests, but at the same time very important ones, completing which will allow you to unlock various upgrades, necessary in character development. Red ones, on the other hand, appear less frequently and those are story-related ones. Completing them will unlock further "chapters" of the game. Quests acquired from characters in the game are always marked with the icon similar to the one floating above NPCs' heads.

Not all of the quests received from NPCs will be visible on the list of quests available from the village Gals. Some of them are "villager requests". Those quests require you to deliver a specified type and amount of various resources. In some cases you will need to complete more than a single quest from the list to acquire the necessary ingredients. After you've collected all of the required items, you must visit a merchant (by visiting Neko on the ranch or by using the housemaid shortcut). All of the side quests won't hinder your progress in the game, but are very important and should be treated as top-priority ones. You can complete them at any time and in most cases they will unlock access to new crafting materials, elements of attire and meals. Each of those elements will significantly increase the combat potential of your character.
