Meownster Hunter

Another, very important Palico function are their own quests, called Meownster Hunter in the game - Meownster Hunter, Prowler/Hunter - Cat companions - Palico - Monster Hunter Generations Game Guide

Another, very important Palico function are their own quests, called Meownster Hunter in the game. This option will become available from the Palico ranch after unlocking three-star quests in the village. You must go to d'Artanyan at the ranch and there you will be able to send four of your cat companions on a hunt. This is done via a mini-game, in which you must launch the cats from a cannon and hit the desired area on the screen. The game itself is very easy, although it requires some practice to be able to launch Palico where you want. The cats will return after you complete a single quest and will give you all of the loot (as well as the "scraps" needed to craft their equipment) they've collected during their journey. Note that every Palico has its own "enthusiasm" level represented by yellow stars. Each time a cat returns from a mission you won't be able to send it on a mission until the cat sleeps at the Palico Dojo ("Catnap" option).

Prowler/Hunter

The last, but equally important usage of Palico is the Prowler function - Meownster Hunter, Prowler/Hunter - Cat companions - Palico - Monster Hunter Generations Game Guide

The last, but equally important usage of Palico is the Prowler function. By accessing the Palico screen in your house (where you can manage your cats) you can select this option and assume full control over one of the cats you've selected. Some of the quests in the village are reserved for Prowler. The ideal application of this function is also (as mentioned before in this guide) a journey on a gathering tour. Prowler does not tire, so you will be able to run around the map with full speed without the need to rest. It also doesn't have to eat, doesn't require anything in its inventory and, most importantly, doesn't require any tools! All this allows you to quickly and effectively collect a lot of crafting materials. Additionally, you can still make use of Palico equipment if some beast will pose a threat to you and will hinder your progress. Palico, contrary to appearances, are quite effective in combat. The Prowler function is also very practical in multiplayer mode, as the Prowler is ideal as the buffer / healer in a party - a perfect choice for players that prefer to assist their team, instead of concentrating on doing damage.
