Mission 3: Battle on the River Mekong - p. 1 MoW: Vietnam Guide

Last update: 11 May 2016

New objective: Reclaim the bridge.

Don't worry about the briefing. The enemy troops will not come until you take over the control of the bridge, thus, you can safely make some noise. But watch out for two snipers in [1] and [2] who may deprive you of your life with one shot at any time if you're not careful. Once a red dot appears on your sniper, it will mean that the enemy sniper is aiming at him. Immediately run to some other place, until you are no longer in the enemy snipers' sight. These enemies are being camouflaged, so you can't see them on the map, but we will deal with them later. You will start by eliminating a few solitary soldiers patrolling the map. Select the sniper (you start at [3]) and run to [4]. Wait for the soldier who will stop at the shore in [5] for a while and then kill him quickly.

The next target will come from the path leading into the jungle. Wait until there is some distance between him and his companion who is on patrol near the road. When the first soldier comes to [6], kill him. In the meantime, eliminate another individual soldiers. Strike at the third, when he stops in [7] and place the sniper near the road to kill the fourth, when he gets to [8].

Time for snipers in [1] and [2] - Mission 3: Battle on the River Mekong - p. 1 - North Vietnamese - Men of War: Vietnam - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Time for snipers in [1] and [2]. They're both standing with their backs turned to the river and, as it was already mentioned, they're camouflaged. To discover them, you can either provoke them to shoot, or approach one of them really closely (right under the tree they're sitting on). The second option is safer, provided you properly go around the lines watched by the snipers and approach them from the location they aren't currently looking at. Both snipers are visible on the images below, in both cases after the discovery of one of them - move a few feet away from the tree (but not to the place the sniper is looking at!), then bring the enemy sitting on it down with a single and accurate sniper shot. Do not forget to gather their ammo and first aid kits afterwards.

First, you must deal with two solitary soldiers on patrol away from the outpost, and then with the very outpost near the bridge - Mission 3: Battle on the River Mekong - p. 1 - North Vietnamese - Men of War: Vietnam - Game Guide and Walkthrough

First, you must deal with two solitary soldiers on patrol away from the outpost, and then with the very outpost near the bridge. Hide in the bushes in [8] and start systematically wiping all the soldiers in [9] and [10] out. Focus your attention primarily on those who operate the mortars in [9]. Contrary to appearances, you don't have to be that afraid of this weapon. You can take the precaution of saving the game, but the mortars are really very off-target and the projectile would have to hit your sniper directly to kill him. New enemies will appear in place of the killed ones, those who operated heavy guns in bunkers, on the watchtower in [10] and the mortars in [9]. Their behavior will only help you get the job done.

Every now and then you can move your sniper if the mortars shells start to explode disturbingly close (look at the first image below) - Mission 3: Battle on the River Mekong - p. 1 - North Vietnamese - Men of War: Vietnam - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Every now and then you can move your sniper if the mortars shells start to explode disturbingly close (look at the first image below). Escape is also a necessity if a flare lightens up the area near your sniper (second image). Quickly run away from this place, because if you are spotted you'll be an easy target for the mortars. Still, the only bigger problem may be the soldiers who will start sweeping the forest to find your sniper. If it happens, simply stop killing the enemies and hide somewhere else. Wait until they return to the outpost and start the massacre again. If you cannot reach some enemies from one position, try changing it.

The few remaining enemies will withdraw to the other side of the bridge - Mission 3: Battle on the River Mekong - p. 1 - North Vietnamese - Men of War: Vietnam - Game Guide and Walkthrough

The few remaining enemies will withdraw to the other side of the bridge. Group the people near the gate, but now select the sniper to fight. Stand by the bridge and start doing the same thing as before, that is, removing the enemy soldiers in [11] and [12]. You can also put one of your men on the watchtower - there is a heavy machinegun there, which will help you in the elimination of enemies. Focus especially on those opponents who operate heavy machineguns (including the second watchtower). Again, if you kill such an opponent on the tower, another will take his place, and after him the next one and so on. In this way, you can easily kill a lot of enemies. After such a massacre there should be only a few enemies left. Sneak behind each of them through the bridge and eliminate them silently with your knife. When sneaking past one of them, make sure that the other will not see you (you can crawl behind the sandbags). After killing all the enemies you will receive a new mission objective.
