Medal of Honor: Frontline
Action
November 7, 2002
Another installment in an FPS series tracing its roots back to the PlayStation console. The Medal of Honor series of war shooters is considered to be the predecessor of the Call of Duty franchise. In Medal of Honor: Frontline, the player assumes the role of lieutenant Jimmy Patterson from the American OSS agency. The protagonist is sent to the most dangerous battlefields of World War II, including the spectacular landing on the Omaha beach for example (a mission inspired by the 1998's film Saving Private Ryan). The player will be taken inside a German U-boat, they will fight over a strategically important bridge in Nijmegen, and most importantly, they will hijack a German plane prototype capable of tipping the scales of victory. In terms of mechanics, the game does not stray much from the formula behind the previous installments, giving the player an opportunity to experience a true war horror, which is intensified by the use of convincing sound effects. In the game, the player participates both in open shootouts as well as stealth-action sequences, making use of a massive number of different weapons representing authentic firearms of the period.
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
Action
November 1, 2005
An alternative version of Call of Duty 2 - a first-person shooter developed by Treyarch for PC and Xbox 360. Big Red One was created exclusively for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube consoles. Similar to the original Call of Duty 2, the story here is set during the Second World War, but focuses only on the actions of a single American infantry unit. The player assumes the role of the squad leader, who coordinates the actions of his subordinates. As usual, it is a dynamic action game focusing on first-person shooting sequences. The story-based missions are linear, and the player visits North Africa, Sicily, France and Germany, taking part in the most recognizable military operations carried out by the Allied forces during the war. Apart from the single-player campaign, the game offers several multiplayer modes. Call of Duty 2: Big Red One utilizes the improved engine used in Call of Duty: Finest Hour. As a result, the game displays more mobile elements, such as tanks or planes.
Medal of Honor: European Assault

June 7, 2005
Another console installment of the series of World War II first-person shooters developed by Electronic Arts. After a short trip to the Pacific this time the series goes back to European countries. The player assumes the role of Lieutenant William Holt, a commander who, together with his new squad, is selected to complete many secret special missions. He and his team can impact the outcome of four great battles that took place in France, North Africa, Stalingrad and in Ardennes. Medal of Honor: European Assault consists of 12 scenarios filled with various main and side objectives. During them the player will use 35 different weapons. In addition to improved graphics and physics, thanks to the use of the realistic engine Havok 2.0, a special Rally Mode was introduced to the series. After activating it the protagonist becomes temporarily invincible, moves faster and is able to kill enemies with a single shot.
Call of Duty: Finest Hour

November 16, 2004
A first-person shooter that takes place during the World War II. The game was developed by Spark Unlimited and published by Activision. Call of Duty: Finest Hour is a console version of the PC title Call of Duty that was created by Infinity Ward. It’s not a typical port but a sort of expansion that offers modified plot. The soldiers participate in fictional depictions of actual World War II operations that happened in years 1942-1945, including the battle of Stalingrad and battles in North Africa, Belgium and Germany. During fifteen missions the player participates in various shootouts during which he will use historic weapons. In addition to singleplayer campaign, Call of Duty: Finest Hour offers few multiplayer modes, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag.
