The popular FPS series, dating back to 8-bit computers (1981's Castle Wolfenstein), returns after a few years of absence. As the official owner of the franchise, Activision decided that the game would be created by Raven Software, the company known for Quake IV or the Soldier of Fortune series. Once again, the player assumes the role of B.J.

Wolfenstein Description
Wolfenstein for PC and PS3 is another installment in the series of first person shooters telling the story of B.J. Blazkowicz, an allied soldier fighting in the World War II. It is the fourth installment in full 3D, after Wolfenstein 3D, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. The game was developed by Raven Software, an experienced company that also created two installments of the Soldier of Fortune series, Star Wars Jedi Knight and Quake 4.
Story
The story is set in 1943. While the allied forces seem to be gaining the upper hand over the enemy, the Germans are still trying to tip the balance in their favor. Led by Heinrich Himmler, they are working on a mysterious weapon known as Black Sun. In so doing, the Nazis are using occultist practices to take control over the world. Blazkowicz is the only one capable of stopping them.
The story in Wolfenstein for PC and PS3 takes place in a fictitious, German city of Isenstadt. The place is swarming with Nazis and filled with alleyways, sewer tunnels and rooftops for the player to reach. The city is the player's base of operations, because the protagonist always sets out for missions starting here. Blazkowicz visits an extensive farm, an excavation site, a train station, a hospital, a castle and an airport.
Gameplay
The game features advanced AI algorithms, thus the enemies try to surprise the player by attacking from the flank. Their morale constantly changes, depending on what is currently happening on the screen. Killing a squad leader results in the enemy soldiers acting less confident, so they become an easier target for the protagonist. Apart from the regular enemy soldiers, the player encounters mutated creatures, and bosses.
In Wolfenstein for PC and PS3, the player deals with enemy soldiers using both representations of real firearms (MP40, Kar98, etc.) and a variety of fictitious weapons (Tesla gun or particle cannon). Additionally, the player benefits from the Veil powers, gradually unlocked alongside progression. These allow to activate a force shield or to slow down the passage of time, for example.
