Company of Heroes Description
Company of Heroes for PC is a real-time strategy created by the makers of Warhammer 40.000: Dawn of War and Homeworld series. The game relates to the World War II as a whole, but its main focus is the American struggle against Germans in the western part of Europe.
Gameplay
In Company of Heroes for PC, the singleplayer campaign scenario opens during the allied air and sea landing in Normandy on the memorable D-Day. The campaign unfolds as a good feature film presenting the heroes from the company mentioned in the title. As for the multiplayer (online, LAN), up to eight players can enjoy the game together, each of them joining either the Allied Forces or the Germans. Plenty of in-game locations and weapons are based on the authentic places and models.
Technical aspects
Company of Heroes for PC has very convincing virtual environments thanks to its Essence Engine responsible for the graphics. The three-dimensional game world is prone to destruction, so the player can witness stone crosses being crushed into pieces by tanks going through a graveyard, explosions making craters in the ground or buildings falling apart under heavy fire in a spectacular fashion. Additionally, the smart AI of the team members makes them effective in cooperation during battles. They also make good use of environmental obstructions providing themselves with cover. They also respond rapidly to enemy moves for example. The Havok engine (present as well in games such as Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, Thief: Deadly Shadows or Painkiller) provides the game world with adequate representation of physics.
