A story mode is the core of the game, focusing on Trunks - the son of Vegeta and Bulma. Shin Budokai - Another World offers six game modes and the player can assume control of one of 18 characters from the animated series, including such fighters as Goku, Piccolo, Broly or Buu.

The newest addition to the series is a rebuilt single player mode, called “Dragon World”, where the protagonists travel around the map in search for the titular Dragon Balls.
