Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. / Ultimate Showdown Description
Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown / R.E.V.O. is the second remastered version of Virtua Fighter 5 - the fifth installment of the popular fighting game series launched in 1993. This project was based on Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown (also a remaster). This newer version stands out due to a number of previously unavailable features and a new graphics engine - Dragon Engine. It is the result of a collaboration between Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA AM2, both belonging to SEGA company.
Plot
In Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown / R.E.V.O. we are participating in the V world fighting tournament. The best warriors from around the globe were invited and it was financed by the J6 organization. The company does not have particularly pure intentions - it intends to find the one who previously dared to free Vanessa, whom it had kidnapped, and also to test its new combat machine with human characteristics - V-Dural. It is our responsibility to thwart its plans for world domination, and consequently - to win the tournament.
Gameplay
In Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown / R.E.V.O. we have 19 players at our disposal, varying in terms of gender, appearance and fighting style. Among them, we will find both fighters known from earlier parts of the series, as well as heroes introduced in Virtua Fighter 5 (Eileen and El Blaze) and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown (Jean Kujo).
The heroes fight fierce duels in a variety of arenas located in picturesque sceneries, including snow-covered mountain peaks, a park at sunset, and a Far Eastern temple. The battlefields are not just a backdrop for exchanging blows. Their selected elements are interactive, and by breaking through fences or walls, we gain access to the next parts of a given location.
The combat system was developed in such a way that both players with no experience in fighting games and those who gained experience on previous parts of the series and other productions of this type could enjoy the fun.
Game modes
Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown / R.E.V.O. offers a wide range of game modes. We can participate in ranked matches, Arcade mode, and the training module. Besides, the game features a multiplayer Versus mode, in which we can compete with other players locally or over the Internet. The novelty is the ability to create private "rooms" for up to sixteen people and participate in League Matches and Tournament Matches, as well as watch the fights of other players.
Engine
Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown / R.E.V.O. uses the Dragon Engine technology, developed for the games Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and Yakuza Kiwami 2, and then used in such productions as Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Judgment and Lost Judgment. The change of engine resulted in improved graphic quality compared not only to the original Virtua Fighter 5, but also to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown. They include refreshed character models, arenas, and cutscenes. In addition, the accompanying gameplay soundtrack was expanded and improved.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. on PC
PC version of the game, named R.E.V.O., was based on Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown from 2021. It differs from it with slightly refreshed graphics supporting resolutions up to 4K, the addition of rollback netcode function, and gameplay balance improvements (also available in the original).
