Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
RPG
April 2, 2015
A 3DS port of Tetsuya Takahashi's jRPG, which was originally released in 2010 for Nintendo Wii. The story is set in dualistic world made of two bodies of gods who fought each other and died in the battle. While one is inhabited by humans, the other is dominated by hostile mechanical beings. The story focuses on a young orphan called Shulk, who, along with his team, is trying to prepare humanity for the incoming enemy. The hand-held port does not bring any changes to the gameplay mechanics of the game. As the developers aspired to deliver the essence of the original game intact, the port is incompatible with other Nintendo hand-helds and works exclusively on New 3DS.
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux
RPG
May 15, 2018
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is a remake of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, a game that was released in 2009 for Nintendo DS. Just like the original game, it was developed by Atlus. Developers implemented some audiovisual tweaks and changes (improved facial expressions, dialogues are now fully voiced). User interface and gameplay mechanics were also improved. The game now offers three difficulty levels and the possibility of saving the game anytime we want to. Strange Journey Redux also has an additional ending connected with the new character named Alex. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is a dungeon crawler. As we play, we explore dungeons and take part in battles with demonic enemies. While in combat, we rely on the individual abilities of demons we capture. Our job is to explore the unknown world that can be accessed through a portal opened in the South Pole and stop the invasion of demonic creatures that came out of it.
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology
RPG
February 13, 2018
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is a complete remake of Radiant Historia, a jRPG game that was released in 2010 on Nintendo DS. The remake has completely new 3D visuals, new soundtrack composed by Yoko Shimomura, and an additional storyline with new scenarios and characters. Moreover, with game veterans in mind, Atlus created a special option of skipping the bigger part of the story and jumping right into the new content. When it comes to new players, they can choose one of the lower difficulty levels. The rest of the game was not changed. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is still a classic jRPG with turn-based combat mechanics. We play as a young warrior named Stocke. With his companions, he has to prevent the destruction the Vainqueur continent. The biggest attraction of the game is the possibility of traveling in time and influencing history with our choices, bringing to mind cult games Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions
RPG
October 6, 2017
A remake of the 2003 Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga developed by AlphaDream on Game Boy Advance. It is an unusual arcade RPG with turn-based combat. During the game, the titular Mario brothers have to join forces with their arch-enemy – Bowser, and together they set out to the Beanbean Kingdom to retrieve Princess Peach’s stolen voice. The 3DS release of the game’s remake features improved visuals with more polished character models and lighting effects that are much more pleasing to the eye. Additionally, the developers decided to introduce two more attractions – a new game mode called Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser, showing the events from the main campaign as they are seen by Captain Goomba, ShyGuy, Boo, and others, as well as the support of amiibo™ figures. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions is compatible with Super Mario toys, and along with the game’s release, the developers introduced two new figures - Goomba and Koopa Troopa.
3D Gunstar Heroes
Action
August 20, 2015
A remake of the action platformer game Gunstar Heroes from 1993, developed by the Japanese studio M2. The player is taken to a fantasy world where the two main protagonists (Gunstar Red and Gunstar Blue) fought Golden Silver, a sinister robot. Neutralization of the antagonist was possible thanks to the heroes hiding away the four diamonds that gave him power. The peace didn’t last for long, though, as Colonel Red, who took control over the mind of the protagonists’ older brother, Green, intends to restore the evil machine. Our task is obviously to thwart the plans of the ruthless evildoer. In 3D Gunstar Heroes, the player can combine up to four weapons to create powerful combos that wreak havoc on enemy ranks. The title also introduces Mega Life Mode that doubles the base hit points, as well as the possibility of selecting the targeting mode — apart from aiming while standing still, we can also choose a control pattern that lets us aim while in motion. Beside the single player mode, the production offers a local cooperation multiplayer. The game’s graphics were significantly improved in comparison to the original, although we can still launch the production with a special emulator that imitates the gameplay on a CRT display.
Cursed Castilla (Maldita Castilla EX)
Arcade
July 13, 2017
Developed by the one-man studio Locomalito, an updated version of a 2D platformer by Maldita Castilla, published in 2012. The plot draws inspiration from the history and legends of many European countries, mostly Spain. One day, an evil demon uses tears of a young witch to open gates of hell and let different kinds of filth in. The player assumes the role of Don Ramiro – one of the faithful knights in service of Alfonso VI, uniting to travel the lands of Tolomera and bring back peace and order. Mechanics of Cursed Castilla are inspired by classic 8-bit platformers, like Ghosts’n Goblins. Your objective comes down to exploring and fighting enemies (e.g. zombies), among them being 19 powerful bosses. During combat, Don Castillo makes use of various weapons acquired during gameplay, and a number of items – like magical boots – that make playing easier.
