How to play Lawbringer? For Honor Lawbringer Guide
This chapter contains detailed description of the Lawbringer. You will find here information about his strengths and weaknesses, full moveset and combat tips.
Last update: 17 February 2017
Lawbringer is a very peculiar character - he excels at disrupting enemy ranks with multiple crowd control attacks, various parry-oriented techniques and is capable of dealing extremely powerful, although somehow slow strikes. This character class is especially powerful when dueling with a single enemy - he has long reach, his heavy attacks stun enemies and deal immense damage and can use extremely effective counter-attacks after successful parry.
Description - strengths and weaknesses
One of the most unique characteristics of this character is the fact that every top heavy attack that he delivers is guaranteed to stun the enemy - provided that the enemy won't block or dodge it. When stunned, the sound becomes muffled, the screen blurry and the player controlling the stunned character won't be able to see the direction (stance) of the incoming attack. This pressures the player tremendously and causes him/her to make mistakes, allowing Lawbringer to continue with his attacks.
The most important, however, when playing the Lawbringer are the counters. This character class is capable of unleashing powerful attacks after parrying an enemy strike. You can either deliver a quick light attack to further knock the enemy off balance, or a powerful heavy one, stunning the enemy and allowing you to start a chain of attacks. Counters are what makes this character strong, as the enemy will have to think twice before unleashing a heavy attack upon you, pushing almost anyone into defense.
On the other hand, when the enemy is overly defensive, you can use one of the many displacement techniques available to the Lawbringer. Impaling Charge allows you to push the enemy a decent distance (or throw him off the ledge, if the foe is close enough to one), dealing damage along the way. This attack can also be used to support your teammate, when, for instance, he's in a 1vs2 situation. Shove and its multiple variations can be used when you've already engaged the enemy, to push him back or when you want to link multiple chains of attacks into a single, swift sentence.
There are two major flaws this character has, one being his speed. Lawbringer is without a doubt the slowest character in the entire game. Without using counters and displacement moves you won't be able to hit anyone, especially the immensely mobile assassin-class characters. This also makes him ineffective when dealing with multiple enemies at once, even with Revenge Mode activated - you won't be able to land a single hit. The biggest problem, however, is his stamina. His attacks consume ridiculous amounts of it and you will often be standing still in order to regenerate it.
Moveset and hero-specific abilities
As mentioned, Lawbringer's attacks are focused around controlling the battlefield, countering enemies and disrupting their ranks.
Passive abilities
Lawbringer has the following passive abilities:
- Renown - renown is balanced across activities.
- Revenge Mode - Revenge Mode boosts damage and health, turns all attacks uninterruptible and parry and throws knock enemies down. Enemy attacks are auto parried on activation, knocking enemies down.
- Stunning Top Heavy Attacks - top heavy attacks always stun enemies. A stunned opponent can't see your guard (stance).
- Shove - Your Shove attacks initiate chains.
Feats
Lawbringer has 12 feats that are divided between 4 tiers (each tier contains 3 abilities). You can choose only one ability from each tier. The table below contains the descriptions of all abilities available for Lawbringer.

Hero-specific attacks
Lawbringer has access to a number of attacks that can be used to disrupt enemy ranks, force enemies to focus their attention on you and punish them for reckless attacks. The following table contains information about every attack available to this character class.
Name | How to do | Description |
Book, Chapter and Verse | Light, heavy, light attack | The most basic attack sequence of Lawbringer. Light attacks are faster, allowing you to start the combo relatively easy, without the danger of the enemy dodging it or blocking the first strike. It's advised to use the top heavy attack as the second strike to stun the enemy. |
Judge, Jury and Executioner | Light, heavy, heavy attack | A powerful attack combination. The third strike is an unblockable which deals high damage. It's highly advised to use the top heavy attack as the second strike to stun the enemy - it will allow you to charge the last hit easier and the enemy won't be able to block it. |
Swift Justice | Heavy, light, heavy attack | Another attack chain of the Lawbringer. It doesn't have the power of the above one, but the attacks in this sequence are a lot faster and harder for the enemy to block. As always, its advised to use at least one top heavy attack to stun the enemy and make blocking the rest of the chain more difficult. |
Swift Justice Finisher | Heavy, light, heavy, light | Exactly the same attack as the one above, but with an additional, almost instantaneous light attack as the fourth hit. |
Impaling Charge | Heavy attack while sprinting | A very unique attack, allowing you to chargé into an enemy, impale him with the poleaxe and drag him with you through the battlefield. This attack can be used to displace an enemy (to, for instance, help an ally swarmed by foes) or to push someone off the ledge. The attack, however, is very easy to dodge and shouldn't be used against foes that are expecting your approach. |
Impaling Riposte | Side (left or right) heavy attack after parrying an enemy attack. | A variation of Impaling Charge attack. It can only be used after parrying an attack. It deals moderate damage and, like the "real" one, allows you to displace enemies or push them off ledges. |
Blind Justice | Top heavy attack after parrying an enemy attack. | An extremely powerful top heavy attack. It deals immense damage and it's unblockable. However, the attack animation is long, so it's quite easy to dodge it. |
Light Riposte | Light attack after parrying an enemy attack. | An almost instantaneous light attack that can be performed after a parry. The enemy won't be able to counter it in any way and the attack can be used to start a new chain of attacks. |
Make Way | Zone attack after parrying an enemy attack. | A zone attack performer after parrying an enemy strike. It's exactly like a normal zone attack, but it's useful when dealing with multiple enemies at once. |
The Long Arm | Move back and press Guard Break. | A very unique attack that allows you to grab a foe and throw him to the ground. The enemy needs few seconds to get back on the feet, allowing you to either launch a guaranteed light attack, or risk hitting the enemy with a heavy one. |
Shove | Move forward or to the sides and press Guard Break. | An attack that allows you to push an enemy back. Shove is unblockable and it can be used to start a new chain. |
Shove Alternative | Guard Break after blocking an attack. | A variation of the Shove maneuver, which can be used after blocking (not parrying) any attack. Use it to gain some space. |
Shove Mix Up | Use heavy attack and then a Guard Break | The most powerful type of Shove attack that can be used after any heavy attack. You can use it to perform almost infinite chains of attacks and the enemy won't be able to do much about it. |
Zone Attack | Press light and heavy attack together. | A powerful attack that can be used to hit all enemies around you. |
Tips and Tricks
Some tips that may be useful when using this character:
- Remember about the guaranteed stun on every top heavy attack. If you land any top heavy attack on the enemy, it will stun the foe - the enemy's sound will be muffled and he won't be able to see the direction (stance) the attack is coming from. This is extremely effective, as even the most experienced players in the game will have problems anticipating your every attack.
- Impaling Charge is a good ability to start a fight with. It allows you to rush into the enemy, push him a decent distance (or throw him off the ledge, if the enemy is standing near one) and force him to fight you. However, this move shouldn't be used against an enemy that is expecting you (like standing in front of you), as it's easy to dodge, will cost you ton of stamina and the enemy will be able to strike you in the back.
- Focus on counters. Lawbringer is an extremely slow character and you won't be able to land "normal" hits very often, unless you're dealing with an overly-aggressive enemy. Wait for the enemy to attack using a heavy strike, parry it and unleash one of your counters. Blind Justice allows you to use start a heavy attack combo, although the enemy might block it, Light Riposte is guaranteed to hit, dealing moderate damage to the foe and Impaling Riposte will deal damage to the enemy, allowing you to displace him like during a normal Impaling Charge. Additionally, you can use Shove almost immediately after parrying an attack, which can then be continued into more attacks.
- A good combo that's quite easy to deliver is to start with the top Heavy Attack to stun the enemy, Shove him, follow immediately with The Long Arm and finish the sequence with a heavy attack once the enemy is lying on the ground. This should do decent damage, won't cost you a lot of stamina and in most cases the enemy won't be able to counter it once it starts.
- When you are surrounded by enemies, you can use a special type of Zone Attack. Wait for one of them to use a heavy attack, parry it and unleash Make Way. This will allow you to hit multiple enemies at once without exposing you to their attacks.
- Shove is your best ally. Use it to push the enemy further away, make him vulnerable to your next attack, or to simply continue with another combo. What is more, it can be easily linked with Long Arm attack, allowing you to throw the enemy over your arm. When done correctly, you will almost always be able to land at least a single heavy strike, stunning the enemy. Remember that every Shove initiates a chain of attacks. Shove can also be used after blocking an attack.
- The Long Arm is a very unique attack. It allows you to throw the enemy over your shoulder, causing the enemy to collapse and become vulnerable for a short time, giving you some breather or allowing you to easily deal more damage. It's effective to use Long Arm after hitting the enemy with a top heavy attack - he will be stunned and most like unable to anticipate the attack.
- Control your character's stamina meter. Lawbringer is capable of delivering powerful strikes and using extremely effective abilities, but most of them consume a huge amount of stamina. Depleting it completely makes things easier for your enemy. When your stamina starts to deplete (about 1/3 of its length) stop attacking for a few seconds so it can regenerate.
