On this page of the guide to Football Manager 2022 you'll learn how to negotiate contracts.
Contract negotiation in Football Manager 2022 is no easy task, and some time may pass before you learn how to properly estimate the value of potential young talents or full-on players who can join your club.
Initial contract requirements
As an example we'll negotiate with the agent of one of the most skilled young players (Wonderkids) available in FM 2022 - Ismael Gharbi. The picture above shows the preconditions the agent proposed at the beginning of the negotiations.
When negotiating contracts in Football Manager 2022, you must always remember a single, simple rule - never agree to the first proposed terms. Every good agent tries to gain as much as possible for his client, which means they always go way overboard with their initial offers.
Counter-offer and finalizing the contract
In this case we found the agent's conditions to be unacceptable, so we lowered the values of individual options in the offer.
The agent, obviously, rejected our proposal, but he also lowered his expectations later on, which can be seen in the picture above.
The new conditions still didn't satisfy us, so once again we lowered the contract's individual values, although not as drastically as before. This finally let us come to an agreement.
When submitting the final counter-offer, you must keep in mind that this is the moment the player decides whether they're going to join your club or not. Try to propose reasonable prices and conditions as to not discourage a player who could be a valuable asset for your team.
During the negotiations you must pay attention to the agent's patience, as it may run dry quickly if you keep proposing unfavorable contracts.
If you end up overpaying for a player or an employee, signing a contract that isn't favourable to the club, the higher-ups are bound to react and cancel the transfer. The same thing happens when you no longer need any employees for a specific position but still want to hire someone anyway - you'll be notified about it by email.
