How to start a match in Fear the Wolves?

Choosing a landing spot is your first important decision while playing on a huge map. To participate in a match you have to jump out from the helicopter and land on the ground. The helicopter flies through the map from different directions which means that you won't be able to always land in the same spot. You can mark your preferred landing spot with a marker (open the map and press LMB on a landing spot) - thanks to that you will always know how far you are from your destination.

Your landing spot must provide you with the necessary equipment, especially with weapons - you need them if you want to explore the area. Choose different landing spots during your first few matches - this solution allows you to learn the map better. You can also read the chapter in our guide dedicated to the map.

After finding the necessary equipment you can start the second phase during which you have to hunt other players, collect more items, medicaments, weapons and additional equipment such as bottles with oxygen. You also need to remember about various weather anomalies that can have a huge impact on your character. Over time, the area free from these anomalies will start to shrink. To win the game you have to either be the last player alive or you can complete the evacuation process by reaching the helicopter in order to get home.

Starting Tips

Here, you can find a handful of tips that may help you during your time with Fear the Wolves. These tips are aimed at new players who have just started playing Battle Royale-type games. Even though Fear the Wolves is based on the familiar idea, it has a few unique features that distinguish it from other games in this genre, such as anomalies, enemies controlled by AI (wolves and mutants) or weather that impacts the gameplay.

Collect and check everything you come across

Everything can be helpful in your fight for survival - try to collect all items you come across and change your pieces of equipment to better ones. This is especially true for weapons - they are important in every survival game.

Listen to your surroundings

Player's steps are easy to hear - you can hear someone walking outside even when you are inside of a building. Because of that you should listen to your surroundings and learn how to distinguish various sounds.

Choosing weapons

Number of weapon and armor slots is limited which means that you have to choose your equipment carefully. For example, you can carry one weapon with high rate of fire, a shotgun for fights at a close distance, and a pistol.

Choose the right landing spot

Avoid landing in the middle of a forest, on a glade or any other type of open space. You won't find anything interesting or useful. Try to always land near houses, shacks, garages or other buildings.

Are you wounded? Hide and wait

Your character received a little bit of damage? Try to hide somewhere safe and wait for your enemy to come closer. Over time, your character will regenerate lost health points.

Choose your enemies carefully

Think twice before you attack someone in Fear the Wolves. Don't attack enemies if you don't have any advantage over them. By avoiding fights you increase your chance for surviving the match. You also get a little bit of extra time to get better equipment. Remember - to win, you don't need to have the highest number of kills. You need to survive till the very end.

Pick up medicaments, food and drugs

All medicaments, food and drugs are highly useful - they can keep your character alive and in good physical condition.

Pay attention to the map

Learn to read the map. It contains numerous markers that inform you about, e.g. the current weather anomaly.

Avoid weather anomalies

The map of Fear the Wolves contains numerous anomalies, e.g. storms or fogs. Some of them may only limit your vision but others can be deadly or deal a lot of damage to your character. Always avoid these areas or leave them as fast as you can if you entered one by mistake.

Watch out for the enemies controlled by AI

During a match your character can be attacked by wolves or zombies. These enemies shouldn't be a problem to you. However, you can end a match prematurely if you decide to ignore them. Don't fight with these enemies in open spaces - they can use this opportunity to get behind your back and kill you.

Pay attention to the doors

Check if building's doors are open before you enter inside. Open doors can indicate that someone is inside that building or that it was already explored. Don't waste your time on these buildings. Remember to close the door whenever you exit or enter a building.

Always explore a building before you start collecting items

Check adjacent rooms before you start searching for items inside of a building. Players like to use a popular tactic where they wait next to a room with valuable loot and then sneak up on an unsuspecting player.

Using vehicles

Vehicles allow you to explore the areas fast but sadly they make a lot of noise and they attract attention of other players. Use them wisely.
