Profitability comparison for different crops | Agriculture Farming Simulator 2013 Guide

Last update: 11 May 2016

Gaining different amount of crops from the same field is only one aspect that has to be considered when calculating profitability. The second one is the price for the crops. I remind you, that the point of reference here is field 16. Below you will find the profit gained from each type of crop from field 16 (with spraying):

  • 6 500 $ for wheat (10 000 l of wheat at 650 $ - the highest price is usually at the Mill);
  • 7 000 $ for barley (10 000 l of barley at 700 $ - the highest price is usually at the Mill);
  • 6250 $ for rape (5 000 l of rape at 1 250 $ - the highest price is usually at the Inn and Port);
  • around 15 000 $ for potatoes (at 440 $ - the highest price is usually at the Inn, the Inn doesn't buy it at all)
  • around 15 000 $ for sugar beets (at 500 $ - the highest price is usually at the Inn and Port, the Mill doesn't buy it at all);
  • around 5 000 $ for corn (at 500 $ - the highest price is usually at the Farm Shop and Freight yard).

It's clearly visible what is the most profitable to grow. Despite the low price of potatoes and sugar beets, they grow in large numbers and the profit is twice as big as with grains.

Therefore, in the first part of the game it's best to focus on grains - wheat and barley. Afterwards try switching to root vegetables, with the sugar beet a seemingly better choice than the potato. Corn shouldn't be sold - either turn it into forage or don't grow it at all.

Remember however that apart from those dry numbers, there are also other factors:

  • ease of work - e.g. the ability to hire a worker;
  • time of work - depending of the effectiveness of your machines (working width and speed);
  • the value of necessary investments (in case of the potato, sugar beet and corn the required initial investment in an optimum option is very big).
