The Ghost of Tsushima – the samurai in the open world. The best upcoming games of 2020

Table of Contents

Why? Samurai and ninjas look like the perfect theme for an open-world game – it's actually incredible that we're only getting it now.

  1. Release date: 2020
  2. Genre: adventure, action
  3. Headed for: PS4, most likely PS5

Feudal Japan is the perfect environment for computer games – featuring unique architecture, badass warriors and a fascinating mythology. However, open worlds remain the favorite setting for developers of high-budget action games. Why hasn't anyone combined these two things yet? I do not know, but in 2020 this omission will be corrected by the developers of the inFamous series.

Ghost of Tsushima will be set in 1274, after the Mongol invasion of the Japanese island of Tsushima. The main character, a samurai, comes out alive from the massacre perpetrated by the invaders on his family and friends. Guided by goddess Vendetta, he leaves the samurai tradition and becomes the titular ghost, the power set to make the Mongols regret their brutal ambitions.

In addition to the original, climatic setting, Ghost of Tsushima will also offer several other, distinguishable elements. For example, there's a strong emphasis on stealth – our spirit, instead of open conflicts, prefers to take revenge silently and systematically. The developers also want to reinforce immersion by substituting typical mission markers with more natural ways of guiding the player, such as elements of the environment, landmarks, and foot prints. The game will probably be the last great PS4 exclusive – we hope that its farewell will be loud and spectacular.

He started with amateur websites, which he coded himself in HTML, then he moved on to increasingly larger portals. A computer engineer, but he was always more drawn to writing than programming, and he decided to tie his future with the former. In games, he primarily looks for stories, emotions, and immersion that no other medium can provide - hence, among his favorite titles, are games focusing on narration. Believes that NieR: Automata is the best game ever made.
