Microsoft Flight Simulator – the triumphant return. The best upcoming games of 2020

Table of Contents

Why? This is the first serious, high-budget flight simulator in years that will try to pull the genre out of a niche.

  1. Release date: 2020
  2. Genre: aviation simulator
  3. Platforms: PC, XONE

A flight simulator among the most anticipated games of the year? We haven't had anything like this in decades. In the eighties and nineties, games from the Microsoft Flight Simulator series enjoyed huge interest, often pushing the boundaries of the visual capabilities of video games. As the new millennium arrived, such complex games increasingly fell to neglect. As a result, 2006's Flight Simulator X was the last installment of the series... until now.

The upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator harks back to the tradition of the series, instantly grabbing attention with its astonishing graphics. The planes, clouds, the land, slowly passing under us – all this is realized with extraordinary attention to details, and reliable effects. Realism, however, is not only about the visuals – it's also manifested in the influence of weather conditions on the control over the aircraft. Interestingly, as in the old days, boxed editions will contain user manuals the size of an encyclopedia.

The scale of the project is utterly impressive. The developers promise a variety of licensed, meticulously designed aircraft, the ability to fly around most of the Earth recreated with satellite images, advanced object recognition algorithms, and finally, supporting the game throughout the next decade. Next year, fans of the genre will finally be able to feel appreciated.

A computer engineer, but he was always more drawn to writing than programming, and he decided to tie his future with the former. In games, he primarily looks for stories, emotions, and immersion that no other medium can provide - hence, among his favorite titles, are games focusing on narration. Believes that NieR: Automata is the best game ever made.
