Half-Life Alyx – VR instead of HL3

Why? The first Half-Life for twelve years, and a game that can further popularize VR.

  1. Release date: March 2020
  2. Genre: shooter
  3. Platforms: PC

Twelve years. We've been waiting for the return of Gordon Freeman for too long. First, we anticipated the promised Half-Life 2: Episode Three, and over time our hopes shifted to a full-blown Half-Life 3, however, with each passing year of Valve's silence, our hopes begun to falter.

And suddenly, the patience was rewarded. The gates of heaven opened, our Savior and Deliverer, Lord Protector Gaben, come down and give us... something you definitely didn't expect. Alyx, isn't a full-fledged Half-Life 3, but a spin-off created for virtual reality. A super-loud, high-budget exclusive that the VR needed so much.

The story campaign will take place between the events presented in Half-Life and Half-Life 2, and will depict the early fate of the well-known Alyx Vance. We'll go back to City 17 and try to resist the Combine's forces, as usual solving a handful of environmental puzzles and, above all, engaging in combat. The title will put the VR technology through the paces, not only rendering the movement of our head and hands, but actually the whole body – it will be possible to lean out from behind corners and even dodge bullets.

HONORABLE MENTION – THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD 2

Breath of the Wild was a sandbox action game that left us in absolute awe, and has had a huge impact on how these type of games are created. It's therefore not very surprising that its direct continuation inspires great expectations and hopes. However, we did not include it in this list, as we doubt that it will be released next year. Such a release date is only suggested in extremely vague leaks and rumors, which are quite easy to debunk – I mean, we know next to nothing about the game, only that it's being developed for Switch. We would love to play the new Zelda in 2020, and there's no doubt that if it would be released next year, it would definitely deserve a place on this list. But chances are too small to warrant hope.
