After the latest teaser, released by the publisher itself, we can probably expect the first concrete details about the new installment of Fable. The game was announced in July 2020 with a short CGI trailer, practically only revealing the title. We also know that this is supposed to be a completely new beginning for this brand, and it's being created by the developers of Forza Horizon, namely Playground Games. New Fable is also going to skip PlayStation and head for PCs and Xbox Series X/S consoles only.
Why are we waiting?
Fable is a series of legendary RPGs that offered very unusual mechanics and experience compared to other games of this type. The Lionhead studio stood behind it, led by Peter Molyneux – who was still famous for revolutionary works such as Populous, Theme Park, Dungeon Keeper and Black & White. Fable, on one hand, took us to a somewhat childish world of fairy tales and fantasy, also offering nice sense of humor and unique gameplay, during which our hero aged, his appearance and nature changed, and depending on the decisions made, we could become an evil and despicable anti-hero.
In Fable, everything mattered. Next to completing quests and developing the storyline, family relationships, business, and trade were important, as was the fact of what we ate. Fable II rewarded vegetarian meals, and for eating meat, it punished us by moving towards "the dark side of the force." It was possible to get married, divorced, or have children, who brought us further joys and worries over the years. As the hero developed and made our decisions, their appearance changed. And that was all well over a decade ago! What can be done with such ideas and heritage today? There's surely a lot of potential, especially since the creators were supposedly inspired by The Witcher 3! We're waiting for specifics from Playground Games!
